Rangers' fan proposal for Straka

Would you do it?
Go check the thread in the Trade Rumours section.

Straka
for
Carter
Hlavac

Honestly, I had an idea of trading Straka and something to Washington for Semin and Zubrus.

I wouldn't want Carter and/or Hlavac.

And the Washington idea is extremely unrealistic, in my opinion.

id do this deal. 1) carter and hlavac combined still cost less than marty (3.8M) 2) carter is gritty which i think we need more of 3) their contracts are up after this year.

i know he's not a power forward in the basic sense, but he's not afraid to throw his body around some. and personally, iv always been a bigger fan of hte power forward type players.

and you would leave them go?

I like both Carter and Hlavac actually.
I think it's an upgrade.
Carter plays a style that we don't posess.

Carter is 29 and Hlavac is 27, so I'd guess that they are not.

No. Carter is far from being a UFA.
Hlavac ditto. There are RFA.

The deal is not fair for the Rangers IMO.

As for the Semin deal it's laughable.
Not only is it awful value wise, but to boot, Washington is trying to unload some salaries, not adding a 31 year old 4.5M$ forward on the decline for one of the best prospects out there.
I won't even touch the Zubrus case...
Semin alone is unreachable for the Pens right now, especially with a Straka package.

I thought the Caps were looking to DUMP salary and BRING IN young players. You say it's the other way around?

If we trade Straka, I would like to get a quality D_man in return. Even if I have to package a prospect. Losing Straka would be a big blow to the team though. I think that will be a big gamble if they dont get a quality player in return.

they are, which is why there are so many rumors of gonchar lang and kolzig circling the last month. they cant get rid of Jagr w/o eating a tone of his contract, so they have to get rid of those guys.

i'd also like to see Holzinger taken along with him.

Salaries:
Carter $2,800,000 - He's not coming regardless of wanting him or not.
Poti $2,800,000 - See above.
Hlavac $1,000,000 - There are times I wonder if that is even too much.
Zubrus $1,500,000 - See Hlavac.

No one knows for sure. But given past history, I would summarily dismiss any notion of fair-to-equal monetary trade off coming back. I lean towards them dumping Straka's $4.35-million outright and getting draft pick(s) and/or future considerations and/or real nominal prospects/minor leaguer(s).

No way do the Caps go for Straka. I think they've learned their lesson.

That's a great trade for both teams.

Straka becomes a top-6 forward on the rangers, providing more offense than Carter + Hlavac is currently providing, and Carter and Hlavac get to play more offensive roles that they are better suited at doing.

Both Hlavac and Carter need to play on offensive lines. Due to the depth of the Rags, they are both getting 'checking' roles, and thus not producing at all.

One of the few win-win deals I've seen on these boards.

There is only a small salary difference (Carter + Hlavac = $3.8M, Straka = $4.35M according to nhlpa.com)

Petition your GMs!!!

I said it on the other thread and I'll say it again.

Add Holzinger to that and you got a deal.

The Rangers don't need offense they need defense, so why trade for Straka? Who am I kidding the Rangers need alot of every thing, just like Pittsburgh only the Rangers payroll is 50mil more and they don't have squat in the form of prospects ha ha ha.
