Son of long-time Kings fans signs with Ducks (L.A. Times)

This is an article on a recent Ducks signee, but I think that it may interest some here because it has quite a bit to do with the Kings and SoCal hockey, in general. Some of you may even know his parents. If he ever makes the Ducks, you'll certainly hear this story again. That's another reason why I might as well post it here.
Quote:
He was on skates when he was 2, wearing Kings sweatsuits "when they had the old purple and gold," said Frank Salcido, who shared Kings season tickets with his wife. Mary Ann has pictures of her son "with his bottle in one hand and a hockey stick in another," and said he's not embarrassed by them — he even displays them in his room.
...
Wherever they were, hockey was a constant. When Frank was in law school, Mary Ann strapped Brian into a car seat and took him to Kings games. Later, Frank coached him in the successful Junior Kings program. Next season, Frank's team will include the sons of Kings Coach Marc Crawford and assistant coach Mike Johnston.

"We'll remain King fans except when they play the Ducks," Frank said, laughing.

Might as well just hand the Ducks the Cup on October 4.

Does anyone know if he's part of the Robby Glantz staff, at least for the LA clinics? They've got a young dman who's Ducks property, but I never actually caught his name.

Wow, talk about a text book definition of a mixed emotion:
Family are long time Kings fans
Son played in Jr. Kings system
Son contracted with the Ducks
Son might have a chance to play a game as a Duck

Ouch!

Wouldn't want to be in his skin when his son takes the ice in a Ducks sweater.

BTW, I'm sure pride of his son's accomplishments will override any mixed emotions he will have.

Let's see, from the list of California players in that article, I've played against Salicido, Robbie Earl, Ray Macias, and Rhett Rakhshani. I've also played against Jack Johnson and Bobby Ryan. It's kind of depressing sitting here reading NHL message boards while all these players I've played against are working their way into the NHL.

More mixed emotions...
Dad has coached for past 3 years with Kings video coach Nelson Emerson...
Dad currently coaches Jr. Kings midgets, including Mark Crawford and Mike Johnston's boys
Dad will coach against Newell Brown's son's Ducks midget team

I definitely remember SALCIDO playing in some of the rookie scrimmages at (then) HealthSouth with the Kings a few years back (the year of Patrick Koeppchen). I remember DT telling me that he was a local kid. Glad to see he's still pursuing his career in the sport.

The best part is that a few of the guys who even made it that far sucked when we played together.

Haha tell me about it. I remember when I played against Bobby Ryan, I thought he was such a horrible skater. Everyone talked about his great hands, which he definitely had, but he really couldn't skate at all. Look at him now.

I played against Ray Macias so many times, and it seemed like every game I played against him, one of us would completely level the other at least once. Admittedly, he got me way more than I got him, but I still got him every once in awhile. The biggest hit I've ever taken was from Macias, though.

That's probably how Dustin Penner's former teammates feel. From what I've read, he wasn't that great in minor hockey, and this past spring, he became a guy talked about very often. Man, would that piss me off, unless I was good friends with the guy, or at least was.

The old saying you can't teach size fits in well with Penner and the friends I have in the NFL. They are always going to get a longer look just because they are huge. Sometimes it pays off...
