Would Eric Desjardins come back to Montreal?

Would he come back? I think he is still a UFA.

i was looking at the free agents and he pops out at me. He might be a good acquisition. Especially since bouillon is injured. We have some depth, but Desjardins back with Carbo as coach and Gainey as GM might be worth exploring.

He has some gas left in the tank, especially if he puts on the old habs jersey again.

I wouldn't mind him for cheap. He could very well be a steal if he stays healthy. I don't doubt that he still has some gas left in him. DIdn't he have a good start last year?

Regular Season:

13 points in 11 games (1.18 PPG), +1

*concussion*

1 point in 7 games (0.14 PPG), Even

*shoulder injury*

10 points in 27 games (0.37 PPG), +2

Playoffs:

4 points in 6 games (0.66 PPG), -3

So all statistics considered he ended with 0.54 PPG, very good for a 37 year old blueliner. But he hasn't reached 50 games in either of his last two seasons, and he isn't getting any younger, so the most money I'd give him is $1 million for 1 year. I don't expect him to score 45 points like he was on pace for last year, mainly because he wouldn't be on the PP with Forsberg and Gagne.

But I think Bouillon or Dandenault would have to go for this to work, and I don't see that helping us very much as they both have 3 years left on their contract and Desjardins probably couldn't get mroe than 2 years out of anybody.

Not a bad idea if we dumped Dandenault.

We could use him as a 7th D-men but vets who had a good career don't accept that role often.

Serioulsy guys...go ask about him in the Flyers forum. They dont want him back.....he's washed up. The days where we picked up this kind of player are over days are over. And he pretty much said he's probably retiring.

One of my favorite players but honestly, the guy is done. Would he really be an improvement on Cote?

He didnt look good in the playoffs.
I remember this seriously ugly play right there. If Sourray did that we'd never here the end of it.

I'm not sure what Desjardins is waiting for.

He should have announced his retirement by now if thats the route he wants to go. On the other hand, there are definitly teams out there who could use his services.

My theory is that desjardins really wants to play again but the accumulation of injuries over the past few seasons are restraining him from doing so.

If 100% healthy, Desjardins would still be a good d-man in this league at even at his age. But likely, he's far from 100% and probbably hasn't been 100% since his major injury roughly 30 games into this season. (Pre injury, eric was simply outstanding)

I pray every night that we do not get this guy. I have never seen a guy of his size shy away from physical contact, and when he is trapped and makes contact, he always comes out on the short end. I will not even get into his suicide outlet passes. Yuck!!!

Suffice to say, he had a GREAT game one playoff year. Before that and since.... any guy that asks for the "C" to be removed from his jersey is not a guy I want.

I don't see anybody on our team that I would get ride of to replace him with. He is not the dman he was just a few years ago and gets injured to often. At this point I think he will retired before long.

I imagine Desjardins would probably take a contract from anybody who was handing one out, including us. That would seem to be the only explanation for why he hasn't retired yet. He's just waiting to see if anybody will take one last chance on him.

That said, I don't think we really need to take the chance. I imagine he could probably get by and not embarrass us or himself too much if he would accept a lesser role and not expect to play every game. But I don't really see us needing that. We've got other vets on D, and other depth defensemen we need to break in. Maybe if we get a truly long-term devastating injury to somebody before the season starts, we could re-visit that scenario. Otherwise, no thanks.

Officially NO!!!

DESJARDINS TO RETIRE.

My thanks to Michael Bergen of Phillysportsline.com for the following: "Comcastsportsnet here in Philly is reporting that Eric Desjardins will be
holding a press conference tomorrow to "officially" announce his
retirement. I cover the Flyers for our website so the announcement isn't
that shocking to me at least but this is the first "credible" report I've
seen in the mainstream media so far
."
