skills competitions are not games and how hard someones shot is should not be measured by how hard they can hit the puck when they get to stop line it up and walk into a shot from the hash marks.

How should we measure it then, smart guy?
Skill competitions are an ideal setting to determine who has the hardest shot (admittedly, though, only if every team does one, which I do not know).

"Other notables in the competition were:
Chad Kilger, hardest shot (103.1 mph), Jason Allison hardest wrist shot (72.8 mph), Clarke Wilm hardest backhand shot (50.6 mph)"
go Kilger

Not sure if it ranks in the top 5 or 10, but Jamie Heward has a cannon.

I was going to say Kilger, but someone beat me to it. 103.1 tops all the previous winners, but he'll never be in an all-star game.

i reckon some of the old timers would still be right up there.
defiantely not phaneuf!
McCabe's is pretty hard, but not near the top of the league. His talent is that he almost always gets the puck through traffic to the net.
If I'm not mistaken, Freddy Modin had one timed at 104 at the Maple Leafs skills competition in his early years. At the time it was the loudest shot in the league as well, since it so rarely hit anything but the end boards.

The last time I talked to him he was playing for Hannover in Germany in the 05-06 season.
P.S. he has the hardest recorded shot in competition history at 106 mph.

If he only learns how to pick his spots and improves on his accuracy, him and Chara could be lethal on the PP.

I've actually never seen him take a shot with his stick high above his head. Maybe it's counter-productive when you're 6'9.
He must have a hard shot. Look at all the weight he can put on that shot.

Rene Bourque won the AHL's hardest shot comp...so he should be right up there.
I'd go with Sami Salo though.

Chara at 103.5 i think. Kovalchuk has a howitzer to. Don't onetimers go faster then just a reguler shot? If so i give it to Kovalchuk

I'd like to see the wrist shot get clocked at the all star competition.
