I was just checking out the Jagr montage that was recently posted and re-realized that Jagr is a beast, a truly memorable player who will be thought of as one of the best all time.
Now, and I know this might be blasphemy saying this now, but what would Jagr have to do/accomplish in order for his number to be raised up in the rafters in MSG? Or has he already done enough?
I myself am semi-superstitious so if you do not feel this is a fair question, by all means do not answer it. I was just curious after watching the impressive highlights of this mans career.
P.S. Will Leetch get his number retired? Should he?
Personally I think that a big part of having your number retired by a team is having played for that team basically your whole career. Leetch has done that. Jagr hasn't, not even close.
Jagr can have 2-4 real good seasons in NY but that wouldn't be enough for me. He's spent more time on other teams having even better seasons.
I disagree, if Jagr has the same type of season as last season and leads the team to the cup and is conne smythe, he could retire on the spot and get his number retired.

I agree. When the Rangers won the Cup in 94 Messiers number was as good as hanging from the Garden rafters.
I really dont think a playoff MVP or league MVP would make a difference in having the number retired at the Garden. The Cup is so much more important to the organization, and many more people will remember that than any individual awards. And it's not like Jagr would just be along for the ride, even if he isn't recognized with an award, anyone who even casually follows knows that he is the most important skater on the team, by far.
A stanley cup as captain w/ conn smythe, another 50 goal season, and perhaps a hart. Had he gotten the hart last year, he would have one checked off the list.

I think Graves and Leetch should get their number retired before Jagr. Graves and Leetch both deserve it.
he hasn't played on this team very long so for me it would take a playoff dominating 3-peat in the last 3 years of his career. Well, something like that. 2-peat might do Records are neat and all but for all that, it didn't get Adam Graves anything.

I cannot think about hanging his jersey among the players whose jersey have already been hung because he comes nowhere near those guys as a Ranger - Richter, Messier, Giacomin, Gilbert...Jagr? Without a Park, or a Bathgate, or even an honorary JD, and even Graves for all they've done for the organization - I cannot begin to think about Jagr.
I just want to point out if anyone have fotgotten that this is an original six team. And someone is asking if a player who has played not more then 1 full season for the team should get his jersey reitred?
A team that only has 4 jerseys (not 100% sure on that one, but 95%) retired and been around for so long. I love Jagr and what he did for the Rangers last season was amazing, but it has got too take a whole lot more for him too get #68 raised to the rafters. I'm thinking, winning the cup and continue too have a long a succesful career that ends with the Rangers.
Well, if he plays the next 3-4 years the same as this one AND wins us a cup, he might. I don't think that records matter much, at least it doesn't seem that Graves gets his number retired...

Absolutely agree. I like Jagr--I liked him when he first broke into the NHL and always enjoyed watching play in NY when he was with Pittsburgh, but come on--the guy has been here ONE full season and objectively has a long way to go before we even begin to talk about whether he should have his number retired. Right now, all I can say is he would have to be absolutely amazing right up through his retirement game. So far, he's lived up to his biling but he's not reached that level.
