It looks like Minnesota and New York are tied for points, but the Rangers have a game in hand. Minnesota gains the initiative on waiver picks in this case I believe.

Couldn't the Rangers have traded something to the Wild for future considerations and those considerations be that they dont claim Wiemer? I guess Sather did not want him after all.

What would you really give them? Whatever you gave them would have to be worth more than Jason Weimer.
Gimme a break... any team could have said they wanted Wiemer... what are we going to make a trade with every team below us? Wiemer would have been a nice addition but I wouldnt go crazy over him.

Why would you ever give up value for a guy we don't need that's one waivers!

Nobody's going crazy, simply think Wiemer would be an upgrade over LaCouture..
As I said above, its not a big loss or anything, just a fan of his game..
Can't figure that one out. After hemming and hawing all summer about the need to keep salaries down, fiscal restraint etc., letting Ronning walk, letting Gaborik and Dupuis sit, Riseborough sees fit to add Jason Wiemer to his payroll? His $1.6 mil makes him the second-highest paid forward one the team.

Makes little sense, but at least if they don't qualify him at the end of the year, it won't be a big deal. Guys like Gaborik and Dupuis will still be around when the new CBA is ratified, somebody like Wiemer could be let go......but still help this year.
