J-P Dumont now a UFA!

J-P Dumont is now a UFA. The Sabres rejected the arbitrator decision, letting Dumont walk away...

Nice. I would like to see Gainey get this guy for 3 years (he would cost less than Ryder will over that same period IF Ryder signs a long term deal next summer). It will then free us to trade Ryder for help in other areas.

I wouldn't want to trade Ryder, but I love Dumont. Risky though, injury problems...we dont need more of that.

Dumont has a career high 23 goals in a season... why take him instead of Ryder who's younger and played injured?

I'm pretty sure we don't have the cap room to sign him. Anyone knows at how much we are?

How so? Aside from last year and his time in Chicago where he was a rookie, he always played over 75 games.

I agree that signing Dumont would be a bit too risky even if I really like the guy and his personnality.

We don't need him. No place for him. Injury proned. Already have that kind of player.

Needs: speedy big center, top 3 defenseman.

1- I imagine the lineup will be long for him....

2- Is it me or have we already heard that Montreal would not be favorite destination of his????

I wouldn't mind getting him, wouldn't mind not as well......

And which defenseman would you trade if you want a spot for a top 3 defenseman??

I don't know why we would need a top 3 Dman, our defensive units did a really great job last year. We could use a strong quarterback as a top 2 dman with Markov on the powerplay but at the moment I really don't see how it could greatly improve the team.

And the speedy big center....I think that every teams is looking for one lol....Speedy + Big + Good Center is kinda rare in the NHL or anywhere else on earth lol

people whined that Samsonov, a legit top 6 winger, was a bad choice becuase he took up a rookie's spot. now people want Dumont, a decent winger who was an obvious beneficiary of Briere's great play during the playoffs, with even LESS space on the roster?

just as i expected . now it will be intresting .

ryder next season with another 65 pts season will get 5 million in arbration no doubt about that . are we willing to pay ryder 5 million a season ? or better yet can we AFFORD HIM at 5 million ?

you could sign jp dumont probally 3 years at 2 million dollars to take his place on the wing .no one's goona give dumont 2.9 million so id expect probally 2 -2.2 million and a 3 yr deal

there is now way we will be able to sign ryder next year to a 3 year deal at 2.5 million

ryder and (blank) could be packaged " traded " for the big center bob so badly wants .as long as the center you getting back can replace atleast ryder numbers this senerio works very well ...

No need for Dumont.I would like to see him play for the Habs and it will make the French media happy, but there is no room for him and I don't wanna trade a young player to make room for him.If Gainey makes a move before the start of the season it's for a D to replace the injury to Bouillon

I know, but we need one.

Trade: I could see Ryder go, and probably a draft pick as well, but we don't need Dumont. With Perezhogin, Kostitsyn, etc. on their way, we already have potential 20-25 goal scorers. And Dumont @ 2.9M$ per year? Yeah... rrrrright

I don't see anything wrong with signing a rather big sized quebecois winger who performs in the playoffs. Plus he scored 20 goals in 54 games, maybe offering him a long-term deal that is back-ended would a solution, given the low amount of cap space.

Riiight, a 65 point season will get him 5 million. Briere and Gomez averaged over a POINT PER GAME and got 5 million.

I like Dumont, but he's not exactly a special player or anything. Certaily not worth getting into a bidding war over and overpaying for.

Our top 4 wingers are awesome. I see no need to add another player here. The only deals I'm interested in involve an upgrade at 2nd line center or first-pairing defense.

now were not going to get a big center for free . will have to give up value to get value . dumont could take ryder's place IF we got back that big bad centre were looking for .

this is only a example im not even saying this is going to happen
example

ryder souray and "blank and blank"

for marleu and blank

would you cry having dumont in your line up if that happened.
