Higgs from Habs fan. He's the kinda player that every coach would love to have on his team. Potentially a next Simon Gagne in the making if he could score goals like he did in the 2nd half season last year.
Well, I think Steen has the slight edge offensivly (Better passer) but Higgins gets the edge defensivly and in terms of skating (Not that Steen is bad at either). I'd give the edge to Higgins just because I've watched him more and love his work ethic and forechecking ability.
Extremely similar players, both players I'd love to have on my team anyday, it's kind of a wash for me right now, but I think Higgins currently fits the Habs team a little better because he seems to be more of a finisher and we need to increase the offense.
That being said, I think Steen probably has a higher ceiling points wise, Higgins goals-wise, both amazing 2 way players. This is pretty much as dead even as you get.
I would be extremely happy to have both on my team but since im a leaf fan, i have to say Steen. Honestly though, it would be a hard choice for me if i was a fan of another team since it seems like they will both be very similar players in the future. Will make the Leaf-Hab rivalry that much better =)
To be perfectly frank, I haven't seen enough of Higgins to come to a great assessment of his game. I suppose playing you guys, and every other North Eastern team 205340583597359034 times a year to promote "rivalries" can change that in the forseeable future however
Thus, by default, Steen wins-- because the world revoles around me, and I've seen him more.
since Higgins had the most goals (behind Nash) after the Olympics, i'd go with him.
That's not true.
Anyone who says this is anything other than extremelly close is wrong. I give Steen the edge as a playmaker, and Higgins the edge defensively. For scoring I'm not entirely sure, I want to say Higgins, but I watched him a bit in the minors, and never thought he had the kind of potential he showed last year in the NHL. For now I'll call them pretty close, pending Higgins proving he can keep potting the goals in the NHL. Intangibles I give the edge to Higgins, but I'll talk a little more about that later. So in the end I'm giving Steen a slight edge offensively, and Higgins a slight edge defensively. So really, it's basically a tie, and has more to do with what your team needs are. I think both players are playing for the right team at the moment.
Is Steen really considered a future captain for the leafs? I'm a habs fan, but I live in Toronto, so I do follow the leafs at least a little bit most of the time, and I wasn't aware that he was thought of that way. I'm willing to admit ignorance on my part, but I'd like a couple of people to elaborate on that before I'm convinced.
