Lupul should be a better play than Samsonov in the years to come. But for now, I don't think he is.
Since when does looking at career stats tell the big picture?

Wow lindros is way over a point per game, we should sign him for 4-5$ million like most point per game centres.

He said that Lupul is already a better player than Samsonov and I disagree

I love when somoene is trying to prove his point with a dumb a analogy

Samsonov is at his prime (28 years old). Lindros career should be over since a few years.

if the Oilers call us right now and ask us for the swap Samsonov for Lupul you would say no?Your crazy,Samsonov was getting less and less ice time as the Oilers were advancing.I know samsonov is now a Hab and we think he is the best player in the Nhl,but comon let's face it,he is the same player that did not do anyting while playing for the Bruins against the Habs

You seem to be all about statistics and nothing else so how about this:

Samsonov NHL Playoff stats: 0.66 points per game +5
Lupul NHL Playoff stats: 0.69 points per game +9

OMG therefore Lupul is better than Samsonov no matter what! The stats don't lie!

I'm not going to comment if Lupul is really already better than Samsonov BUT i had to point out at this argument. Trade Value hold next to nothing in a player vs player argument these days, very weak point imo.

As for the playoffs against the Habs... I dont know, Samsonov was the guy i was the most scared of against the Bruins in '02. The same apply with him in '04 with also Nylander. He wasnt invisible, that's for sure.

The guy ask which player was the best one at the moment. He didn't ask which player has the biggest value.

Lupul has more value than Samsonov
Samsonov is at the moment better than Lupul

Meanwhile, the same people say tha the Habs with Higgins, Ryder, Kovalev, Sammy with Kostitsyn on the way, should not bother adding Dumont because there is no place for him....

Am I missing something?
Yeah, you're missing Johnson and Perez with the latter not really "fitting" on a 3rd line.
You also forgot that Dumont can't play on a 3rd line while Torres, Moreau and Pisani all can.

I'm not knocking Sammy, but the difference between he and Lupul is while Sammy creates chances, Lupul can finish where he left off.

This IMO is like comparing Kovalchuk to Spezza. Well, one's specialty is to make the plays, the other's specialty is to put the plays to bed.

I think you did too, but there are a couple of things to even it out a bit.

One is that Sykora plays the pp on the point well. Sammy was pretty good at controling the pp from the boards, but frankly Hemsky is much better at it than Sammy, so it was a bit of a wasted skill on the Oilers.

Second is price tag. I would imagine there will be close to a million difference in price tag between the two.

No denying that Sammy is the better stickhandler and playmaker - but I think the Oilers really felt like Sykora is a better fit (at least they've claimed they weren't really interested in bringing Sammy back, and they have been remarkably candid about this... for example Spacek)

On the Oilers board they say it's 3M.

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=279966

It seem a lot of money for him , i would not have traded Zednik for Sykora when the rumor was in the air. And with JP.Dumont and A.Carter up for grabs , i'm wondering what K.Lowe was thinking.
