Hes restricted, why would Pittsburgh waste the time and effort as the Hawks would match any offer.

Bless RFA offer sheet compensations.

The Hawks would match any reasonable offer the Pens put forth, and if they didnt, it'd be because the Pens offered him a ridiculous amount of money.

Let's say for arguements sake, they'd match anything up to $3M - if the Pens exceed that amount, the Hawks would glady take your top 5 pick, along with your 2nd and 3rd round picks - in a deep draft even.

in short - leave the Hawks alone, jerk

You'll have to define this word on HF because no one seems to know what that word means.

"Ruutu remains the lone restricted free agent the Blackhawks have yet to re-sign. Negotiations with Ruutu and his agent are ongoing. Dale Tallon would love to see Ruutu on the Hawks' revamped top line with Martin Havlat and Michal Handzus, and he is hopeful that a deal -- whether a one-year that leads to a longer deal, or a multi-year -- will get worked out before the start of training camp."

The Penguins would really be shooting themselves in the foot if they tried this, they have the most young talent to be stolen.

Crosby would be a Hab in 2 years and Malkin could be a Cap this season.

I dont think any GM is going to be the one dumb enough to make the first offer sheet because the other GMs are going to gang **** their RFAs for breaking the silent pact.

I think this whole thing might be a misunderstanding. The person who started this might be confusing an old article about Jarkko Ruutu with a new one about Tuomo, because the supposed "news" seems very similar to some of the stuff we read about Jarkko at the beginning of last month. I mean, the source he was quoting lists the Hawks as one of the teams interested in Ruutu's services, wouldn't that be a tad bit redundant?

Well, you're right, but the Hawks aren't offering anywhere near $3M - I think it'd take less than that to pry him away. Remember, he's got a ton of potential but finds himself injured frequently. My thinking is that the Hawks are offering him somewhere around $1.25M right now and MIGHT go as high as $2, but I still think there's a chance someone could covet him more.

And the Pens certainly have the cap space to do it.

The negotiations have been extremely contentious.

Until this whole "rumor" gets cleaned up and there's a better source than another message board, this gets paddied.

Now back to gambling...
