I don't begrudge him at all. He's in the twilight of his career, and I don't think he really saw a whole lot of interest from teams that were willing to pay him more than the absolute minimum. He's a player that is teetering on retirement that still wants to play. With his production and skillset, teams probably weren't bang down the door to acquire his services. It's hard to hate him for going to any team that shows him money, playing time, and a chance of winning as this might be his last year.

Plus, he lives in Detroit, and this is where his career began. If it was another player, I would probably view things differently. For Johnson, I'll give him a pass.

You know you don't need any excuses to NOT like players. You never have and you never will.

Thank you! A lot of you guys seem to forget that he was a Red Wing before he was ever a Predator.

I've always liked Johnson, but as a Wings fan (don't worry, I'll be leaving shortly) I don't get this deal at all. They're already neck deep in centers.

I don't begrudge Johnson at all for this move, with him living in Detroit and all.

If they plan to use him as a 4th line center as the article suggests, they will continue to use their 4th line completely different than we use ours.

Also quite the logjam at cnter already, what gives?

He'll be hurt and ineffective.

Nice guy, but not much left in the tank.

He wont do much with Detroit.

Now Markov, OTOH......

No idea. I think Wings fans are mostly baffled by this move.

Unfortunately, it may also mean that Zetterberg gets moved to wing. He's a decent winger, but so much better at his natural position.

I don't see Hank being moved from center now though,if anything,Johnson may be the one playing on either wing.

That would surprise me. Johnson playing the wing, I mean.

I wish him well. There is nothing wrong with being a wings player. It's some of their fans I have a problem with. Especially the ones that come down here and show their arses. Mostly young bucks that need their pecker knocked into their watch pocket for them! Had one mouth me last year and when invited to show me what he's got, ran like a scared chicken.

I didn't like Johnson when he was here, I certainly don't like him now.

The Wings just keep getting softer too.

But he's a hellofanice guy.

Great to see Johnny get a job even if it is with the wings.

Johnson was your guys captain this last season right? So who do you guys think the captain will be now? Any chance it goes to Kariya?

Best of luck to Greg, as long as its not against us. Johnson has been a solid player for us since the beginning. Of course he has trailed off the past few years, but has been a good leader and veteran.

The wings board is aflame with wings fans TEEEEEEEEED big time about signing Johnson. Can't saw I blame them. It does not make much sense to me either. I wish Johnny well but what can/does he bring to the wings (or anyone's for that matter) table?

While I think Kariya provides all kinds of great experience and leadership, I would think they would go towards someone who has been with the team for a little longer. However, I wouldn't protest Kariya being captain.

As a Ducks fan I can tell you he is a great captain, despite what most of his current haters will tell you. He became captain of the Ducks in his third season and is the kind of guy who leads by example because nobody wants to compete more than him.

By the way, nothing would make me happier this year if it's the Ducks and Preds in the WCF because if we can't win this year I'm totally rooting for the Preds. Good luck this season, make sure to give Detroit hell.

I think Sullivan probably has the lead horse in the captain race, but I guess we wait and see.

I think that would be a great series. Man I'm going to dread playing against the Ducks defense this year.

I gotta admit.....it feels pretty damn good that we have reached a place in our evolution that the RedWings have just signed two players of our players that we had no real interest in re-signing......

We've been hearing that alot and it sounds better every time I hear it. At least it's only four times. Getting Arnott though will help, that guy is right kind of center to use against us.
