Richard Petiot

I don't know a whole lot about him [haven't seen any Monarchs games, etc], and I'm curious for people's perspectives on him. There are some people who voted for him in the prospect ranking polls, and I'm curious for an examination of the kid. I didn't see much during his couple games w/the Kings last year that indicated he was anything special, but of course he was being bounced around from LA to Manchester so much I'm sure he never got comfortable w/the big club; and he never got a chance to play a bunch and find his groove. So I'm not saying he's not a good prospect- I just don't know much about him. So to those who've seen him play more than I have- what's the kid like? And, can/will he actually contribute at the NHL level, in your opinion?

He's supposed to be a big-hitting defensive defenseman who's ready for the big show but there's no room for him right now. Hopefully Miller goes down in the first game and Petiot replaces him for the season.

edit: He had a +15 in the AHL last season, which was third best on the Monarchs, behind only the top two scorers.

His 7.0B Grade is fairly accurate, somewhere between 4-6 d-man...
Not NHL ready at this point...

Well, I'd certainly never wish harm on a guy, especially one of our own! If he stays healthy, Miller will be a great 3-4 dman this season, and help Timmy keep developing into a 2-3 dman. IF Miller or someone else goes down, though, I'm hoping Petiot can show something.

Is the scouting report correct, in your view? Is he a big hitter, etc?

He's good for a big hit every now and then. It's tough to give an accurate account on physical defensemen given what we saw in Manchester last season. The defensemen were basically focusing on mobility and poke-checking...

I've got Dallman ahead of Petiot in terms of depth at this point...

Any reason the Blues didn't resign Dallman? He's still young and looks to have some offensive upside.

Petiot will be a solid second pairing hard hitting defensemen for us.

Well, O'Connell, who put him on waivers from Boston, must have seen something...I think the reason Blues fans gave for his departure was there wasn't room left on their roster for him.
