Do I have this right?

Instead of actually addressing legitimate questions by board members, the MO here is to just close or delete the thread & pretend all is hunky-dory?

That's fine, but I'm still left wondering how JTL violated the TOS. Is criticizing an administrator in itself a bannable offence? If it is, you ought to add it to the FAQ.

That was already covered under the "any time for any reason" clause., I think. *groan*

The lesson here is to never give anyone any real power. Guys like Buffaloed can't even handle pretend power like modding a stupid message board, no less running your city or school system.

(sorry had to interject a little politics into this... otherwise what would be the point. )

I think Buffaloed is a good guy and contributes nicely but I mean c'mon we can basically police ourselves and keep each other under control without having to close or delete threads and ban people unless its serious, right?

You guys are making a mountain out of a mole hill over a 3 day ban. Persistant violation of our rules regarding personal attacks and trolling, particularly when you've been warned in the past, is going to get you banned. Those of you that have been warned in the past, know that we don't ban anyone lightly. As far as I know LALALALALALAFONTAINE has never even been warned. That should speak volumes about how tolerant I am :p

I'm sure he is, but that doesn't excuse the mechanism he chose to deal with a behaviour he didn't appreciate. I've seen him get snippy with people in other threads, and this certainly seems hypocritical to me.

Oh, OK - *now* I'm clear on things: Criticizing an admin or a mod is considered trolling. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I'll let this personal attack on me go unscathed.

But, I won't. LaLa, you are certainly confrontational and rarely brook idiocy to go unnoticed (for this I am appreciative, BTW) but I don't think thre's ever been a time where I thought you over the line or unrepentantly rude. If you were I probably would have said something. Bringing you into this debate as a straw man is not only inappropriate it's downright insulting. But, considering how things have gone today, why am I not surprised.

What Buffaloed clearly doesn't understand is that the way he responded does not correct the behaviour he disagreed with. It only fosters more of the same. I didn't think JTL's original response all that courteous, and obviously Buffaloed didn't either (which is certainly his prerogative), but then if that's the case, the first thing you do is ask for is an apology, not issue a threat. That threat practically ensured that JTL would respond the way he did (I know I would've). By asking for an apology or calling out JTL at a personal level it puts the onus on JTL to tone down his attitude or risk looking shrill and irrelevant to a group of people he obviously wants to remain a part of. Shame is a powerful motivator, far better than the law.

Buffaloed chose, IMO, the low road and got the appropriate response from JTL. That's my take and why I've been on JTL's side of this even though I thought his initial sarcasm directed at Buffaloed was questionable.

I will give myself a warning, and after several I'll ban myself for 3 days if the behavior persists.

For someone who said earlier that they don't have an opinion one way or the other on this, I find your response interesting to say the least.

How is explaining his position living up to his avatar? His explanation was clear, concise, and polite. When did it become a crime to have an opinion and defend it?

You'd prefer he be disingenuous and suck up, I suppose, eh?
