I would rather have Dumont. I guess that means I think he's better?
Obviously Carter's best has been a smidgin better than Dumont's best so far. But then, Carter is 32 and Dumont is 28.
I can remember how bad Carter was before last season. So bad, so soft, so often invisible you wondered if he was even interested in playing hockey anymore. That would make me worry about what would happen if he had a multi-year deal. I wouldn't take the chance. I just wish the Leafs had enough cap space to sign him, I guess.
The best you can get out of Carter is probably better than the best you'll be able to get out of Dumont, at least it's been the case so far. Same logic applies for the worse of each player though. Choose your poison. I prefer getting neither but I guess consistency from season to season makes Dumont the "better" player.
Think about this for a second.... Dumont was a first round pick. He was traded twice in the first few years of his career. Then, when he is a RFA, his own team that had him on the first line did not even offer him a contract.
So... as for him being the second coming of Jesus... I would believe him to be a "project", not a sure thing.
As for Carter, he also has been traded around a bit. As for him being a floater, I do not think of him of any more or less a physical player then Dumont, only that he has proven more stats wise.
So, it is not as if we are comparing an apple and an orange here. One thing is for sure, we are comparing a French Quebecois to a non-French Quebecois, and like it or not, that matters more then most things for a huge % of the population.

While i agree with your general opinion that Dumont could be a project. I dont think your resume of his career is honest to the guy.
Dumont was a 3rd overall pick by the Islanders, at that time Darcy Regier was apparently the guy in the organization strongly in favor of getting this guy. Because of contract disputes, he was then send to the BlackHawks before even playing in the nhl.
After 2 season with the Hawks, Regier who was now with the Sabres made a trade to get back "his" player. The Hawks did the trade to get Grosek and free Gilmour salary.
And now, the sabres havent re-signed the guy because by every one account, the salary he got in arbitration is a good million over his value, not because they dont want the guy. Regier have been reported to have made an offer to Dumont. Hardly uninterested.

Damn, EXCEPT for the 2003-2004 season, where he got traded twice (oh yeah that's sure to help your confidence eh) he has always been a 25 goal scorer... (over a 82 game season.. he has been injured couple times.. juts look at his stats with boston and edmonton)

Do you think edmonton would've shipped a 25goal scorer off for next to nothing, when he was making 2million/season, if not for a good reason?
The guy has no heart, he's basically Ryder without any heart or dedication to the game.
