1) San Jose (Thornton/Cheechoo for 82 games)
2) Dallas (Turco is a great regular season goalie)
3) Anaheim (Niedermayer and Pronger; not fair)
4) LA (Solid team but they're rebuilding)
5) Phoenix (Stupid GM + Stupid Moves = Last Place in division)

Yeah acquiring Ballard & Morris for Vaananen and Gratton was pretty stupid.

So was that horrible Michalek for Westrum trade.

And that utterly moronic Scatchard for Tanabe move.

What about that horrendous signing of one of the best dmen in Jovanovski?

Leclerc obtained for nothing then traded for Reinprecht. Awful.

I can really see your point.

I agree with you that Phoenix will not find it easy to make the playoffs... only 3-4 teams out of 15 find it easy..

Mara is a nice player (sad to see him go) but he still doesnt dominate a game like he has the talent to. His role as top offensive defenseman was really made redundant with Jovanovski's signing and the Coyotes also have Derek Morris. Boynton is the opposite of Mara, known for his toughness and that's what the Coyotes defense needs, more than another offensive rusher.

I agree with you on everything except for Jovo. IMO, he's no longer an elite Dman. He's become injury prone (GP last 3yrs: 67,56,44), an can be a defensive liability.

At $7M per season for 5 years, I think you guys will regret this signing.

Still have to respect someone capable of having a 50+ point season. It will be interesting to see how he plays this season for sure. Incidentially his cap hit is actually 6.5m. It's a lot to pay but we cant all have a Zubov at 4m

EJ certainly isn't bad, but definatley overrated and not worth the money he's getting.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it was a 1 or 2 year deal, but 5 years? Ouch.

And another person ranks LA last...

I don't think we're that bad.

We had a winning record last year (42-40) and all we lost was Demitra. IMO, Blake + O'sullivan > Demitra.

1. San Jose (Thornton will dominate.)
2. Anaheim (#1 Ranked Two-Way Team)
3. LA (much improved and will contend)
4. Dallas (Will fight hard but need to incorporate more youth and draft picks)
5. Phoenix (Stupid GM + Stupid Moves = Last place in the Pacific

Cloutier

you can take the same for Dallas...the most ranking us low, but we only lost Guerin (but is he really a loss ?) and Arnott (who also isn't a that big loss...overrated) while we added Lindros, Halpern, Modry and Sydor.....heck i think you can also add Niinimaa as a new one after his ankle injury

Dallas will be strong this year. Turco is the question mark though. His numbers were noticably down last year. If he can bounce back this coming season the Stars will challenge for the division title.

I'm just hoping we play a LOT better against LA this year than we did last year! Think we went 2-6 against the Kings last season, while having little trouble with the rest of the Pacific.

I think the team we will be worse off against this year is probably San Jose
we have pretty much dominated Anaheim fairly consistently over the last while, Im always pretty confident playing that team - besides, I think they're pretty over-rated. Even if you put Pronger and Niedermyer on the same D line people would still score goals against them while they were on the ice =/
I live in edmonton, and pronger didnt really do that much for the Defense during the regular season - they were still pretty horrible

well if you go back to previous years we get a bit bettter... but yeah, you guys probably have more talent then us this year, which is usually not the case =/
I got to see San Jose play first hand in the playoffs (In edmonton) and they strike me as the team to beat. Very uncomfertable with the prospect of having to play them 8 times..
course Im also partial to having experiance throughout the roster =p maybe Im better suited for the old NHL
