Yahoo Fantasy League

Yahoo will open hockey leagues later August but I think we can start prepare already. Who will be in this year ? Should we play Head-2-Head this year ? What about stats categories ? What about draft - live or not ? (I remember there were disappointed persons last year). What other posters think ?

I can advise G, A, Plus/Minus, PIM, PPP, SHP, GWG, SOG, FW for players and W, GAA, SV, SV%, SHO for goalies.
We will have about 20 teams IMO and default number of players for every team looks OK for me.

I'm in, and I'd be for a live draft.

I'm in, first time last year and it was fun. I'm for a live draft, but my schedule doesn't allow a lot of things.

I'd love a live draft, but considering the time zones involved I doubt we'd be able to work it out to everyone's satisfaction. My complaint with Yahoo's autodraft, in any sport really, is that no matter how carefully I've tried to construct my predraft rankings, something weird always happens. It doesn't know if you have 0 goalies, (or catchers, or place kickers) or 4 of them. So you always end up with a dearth or a surplus of something, usually at an inconvenient position. Last year Yahoo! drafted me 2 or 3 mediocre backup goalies (well, Huet ended up being a starter, but he did nothing the first few months of the season). I am sure part of that was my fault for not ranking more goalies higher, but in my years of using Yahoo! I've noticed that you always end up with something bizarre about your roster. With a live draft you can only blame yourself.

If we can get a majority of people to do the live draft, that would be ideal. The only truly even way is for everyone to do the same kind of draft, but autodrafts kill the part of the season that I believe is the most crucial.

And for what it's worth, the Rotisserie style stat setup we had last year was fine. I don't know about a head to head league, I've only done that in football; but I think that would be a headache for hockey.

Well, I'm OK for live draft if it's Friday/Saturday night or at least it's holidays

I'm in. Live drafts are fun, but may be difficult since we have fans all over the globe.

Not to hijack your thread, but if anybody is interested in doing Yahoo Fantasy Football, check out the "Official Colorado non-hockey talk thread" for details.

I've never been in a yahoo league. It's about time to change that. Count me in!

I'm for a live draft, too if it will be at the weekend like Kaizer said.

I'd like to play to if possible. A live draft would be great for me too depending on the time. Is there money involved or not?

I'm in for the league...however with University, I don't think that I can set it up and be the "Commisioner" again like last year.

I'd be all for a live draft, but there are just too many negatives against it. First we'd ALL have to get cleared from school/work/families and the like.

I only set it up Autodraft because it was the easiest way to do it...I didn't do it because I prefer it, quite the contrary, I love Live Drafts, but I do think that with having fans all over the world it makes it quite difficult.

I usually commish a baseball league that always has a few Brits and a guy from Oz, and we always do live drafts. I think it usually ends up being 3am for the UK guys, but they are gamers. If we do a weekend, we've got a greater chance to get most of us there (you never get everyone there, in my experience, even if you are all in the same time zone.)

Then how exactly would it be fair if not everyone was there for a Live Draft?

Don't get me wrong, I'm totally game for a Live Draft, but if not everyone can show up (and the current schedule I have right now prevents that at the moment)....well then you see my point.

Even if some people miss the draft, they'll have their players autopicked...they still can get a good team.

I'm in again. For some reason lately, I've almost been looking forwards more to our fantasy league draft, then the hockey season. I vote for the rotisserie style, and a live draft. I got to think some Sunday night would allow most of us to be there.

If everyone can't agree on what date to do the live draft, we could always have two leagues. I think we could find some weekend day that would be best for most of us for a live draft. Then all the people that can't make it can be in the auto draft league. The people from the live draft league, can be in the auto draft league as well of course.

I want in! I do prefer the head to head format but will enjoy whatever the majority prefers. I do like the live draft idea too but that can get difficult with such a locationally diverse group.

I was just saying that even when everyone agrees to do a live draft, inevitably some people don't show up. So I am used to the majority of people drafting live, and some using autodraft. I'm not saying a live draft is the most fair for everyone if we can't all be there, but at the very least I don't see a ton of difference between knowing ahead of time a handful of people can't be there and finding out at the last minute. I think it's a worthy trade off.

I am cool with whatever the majority wants, but the live draft is way more fun, and a truer measure of your skills.
