I saw Spurgeon play this morning at the Chilliwack Bruin's training camp. He looked miles ahead of most of the players there and would be a huge addition to that team if the Oilers don't have a pro spot for him.

He's apparently impressed a bunch of people there with the attitude and leadership he's shown and they would love to have him all season.

This thread is like Christmas. Sticky, Seachd thankyou. This is a much better sign of fall than the leaves in my backyard.

Thanks Seachd! Looking forward to this again

And yes Trukhno to the Olympiques is official. Last I heard from Guy he was still tied up in Europe with visa issues though.

First link I could find LINK

"Lessard will join the PEI Rocket next season, having been traded in a draft-day deal that brought Edmonton prospect Slava Trukhno to the Olympiques."

Any update on Slava, Guy?

Trukhno is good to go for Gatineau this year, all visa issues cleared up. He'll be at Oiler camp in a couple weeks.

Looking at that list above, looks like my CHL update this year will be pretty short.

just like to say thanks to seachd for updating one of my favorite threads every year.... really interesting in seeing what cogs does this year in michigan now that he should be on their top line or defenitly at least on their top 6.... he should also get loads of PP time as well, so im fully expecting his numbers to go up

Hurray, this thread means the season is just around the corner!

A few guys I'll be watching very closely this year (they're simply guys I'm interested in, not ones I predict will be NHL players or anything):

Colin McDonald: Will he finally show more offensive potential and score some big goals to bring back to light the Bill Guerin comparison? It sounds like the Oilers are very high on him still, might he follow the Pisani path to the NHL?

Taylor Chorney: Will he put up a few more points this year as he takes on a larger role in North Dakota?

Geoff Paukovich: He put up some very solid numbers for a big guy with 21 points in 39 games back in 2004-05. However, his offensive ability completely disappeared last season. Will he score a few more goals and truly emerge as a future third line centreman?

Cody Wild: Were his numbers last year in Providence a fluke or will he improve on them this season and emerge as a potential top 4 defenceman?

Patrick Thoresen: Great numbers in Europe, how will he do in North America? Is it possible he sneaks in and steals the fourth line centre spot away from Pouliot? He's my long-shot pick to make the club this year - the Oilers signed him knowing they wouldn't have an AHL club this season so they must envision him playing for the big club one day. It wouldn't hurt Pouliot to have another year in the AHL to gain some offensive confidence and Thoresen sounds like he's a bit of a pest to play against (which would be useful on the fourth line).

I wonder if any media types around Edmonton check in here. This thread is pure gold.

GuyF, have you ever heard anyone talk about it?

Without naming names... YES. A lot of folks check out HF in general. There is a section of the message board only available to staff and one thread there gets updated when HF is mentioned in some other media forum (newspaper, official team websites, etc).

You'd be surprised how many junior,NCAA and NHL teams provide links to HF stories. However, my stuff doesn;t seem to get mentioned ever on the official Oilers site, the message board there yes but not by the team. Robin Brownlee and Jim Matheson have both mentioned HF and the boards in the past in stories they've written for their papers. HF gets mentioned probably 3 times a day on TEAM 1260 on shows other than The Pipeline Show.

HF is well known now.

With the shoulder injury last year, I am under the impression that Maine asked him to delay his college career for another season. That, or because they don't have room for him yet on their roster.

OUCH!!! No wonder you had him lower in your top 30. That is definately not a positive sign. Hopefully he makes the most of whats handed him and he lights the league on fire.

I love this thread.

But I don't expect it to be what it was last year because of Schremp. I mean you take Schremp out of the mix and the thread from last year is half the size. We go into to many discussions with people from other team boards and our own board about the kid, if he graduates then this thread will lack the luster it had from the 05-06 season.

BTW I just paid for me seasons tickets and I can't wait for hockey to start again.
