2 trade proposal same old guys

MTL/DET

MTL: R. Lang
for
Det: R. Bonk and a 2 round draft pick

MTL gets a second line center that has some chemistry with kovy and nows how to score.

DET: saves a mil off cap gets a good 3rd or 4th line center and aq a second pick. They also get rid of lang who isnt a checking line center who is only good when surrrounded by talent.

second trade proposal ATL/MTL

MTL:G. de Vries
for
ATL: Souray and Ribs

MTl replaces souray with de Vries who I would say are pretty much equal and they get rid of ribs. Mtl also gets rid of some cap

Atl gets a playmaking center in ribs

thoughts.............

First one would be very good for us, but I don't think Detroit would bite. No way for the second one

euh...no

Lang too old and inconsistent. DeVries I pretty much liked him in the playoff run he had when in Colorado - Nice physical presence. Still point for point Souray has the advantage.

Neither of these trades are worthwhile for the Habs. Souray is better the DeVries and why would we just dumb Ribs for nothing? The idea is to make your team better not worst.

I'm with the consensus.

The first deal makes no sense for the Wings starting the season. They don't have cap troubles. A couple months ago, before Shanahan left and before they got a cheap Hasek instead of a more expensive goaltending option, then maybe dumping Lang would have been a consideration. Now there's no reason whatsoever to move him. Only way he moves is at the deadline in the unlikely event that the Wings are a non-playoff team.

The second deal is bad for the Habs. Souray is better than DeVries in all facets of the game. Past that, we can't afford to dump Ribeiro either, as we have nobody else who can fill his scoring role on the team. So that's a suicidal proposal. (Even if you were getting Lang in the other deal, it'd still be a senseless waste of assets, IMO).

So Gainey resigns Ribeiro (to a pretty hefty increase in salary) only to dump him a month later?

I guess it's possible Gainey's a complete schizo who confuses his Yahoo! fantasy team with the Habs. I doubt it's true, but I guess it's possible.

i wouldn't even trade Bonk and a 2nd for Lang...

Lang will be 36 in a few months and has a 3.8M/Y salary.

I agree with everyone here.
The 2nd especially is very bad for the Habs. DeVries isn't even an imporvement over Souray. Ribs will have a great season this year. It would be a mistake to give up on him now.

I don't really see how either trade helps us. We pick up Lang, but then we don't have any solid center for the PK. I'll admit, I'm a Bonk fan, but Lang doesn't help us at all.

Greg de Vries is an excellent #3 defenseman, but nothing more. If you were planning on replacing Bouillon with him, then fine, but Souray is more useful to the team, and de Vries isn't anything spectacular on the PP.

srry forgot to mention that the 2nd trade proposal is only to be considered if the 1st trade where ever to happen. Thats why I added ribs in the 2nd one. I'm not sure if this will alter your opinions

Souray > De Vries enough said...so why would be trade our 2nd best D-man for a 3rd Dman and add our 2nd line center in the trade, that makes no sense whats so ever.

It still doesn't change the fact that Souray is better than DeVries, and Ribeiro is better than nothing. Even if we did pick up Lang, and wanted to unload Ribeiro, we could probably just find a taker for a mid-round pick, and keep Souray.
