The first deal makes no sense for the Wings starting the season. They don't have cap troubles. A couple months ago, before Shanahan left and before they got a cheap Hasek instead of a more expensive goaltending option, then maybe dumping Lang would have been a consideration. Now there's no reason whatsoever to move him. Only way he moves is at the deadline in the unlikely event that the Wings are a non-playoff team.
The second deal is bad for the Habs. Souray is better than DeVries in all facets of the game. Past that, we can't afford to dump Ribeiro either, as we have nobody else who can fill his scoring role on the team. So that's a suicidal proposal. (Even if you were getting Lang in the other deal, it'd still be a senseless waste of assets, IMO).
I agree with everyone here.
The 2nd especially is very bad for the Habs. DeVries isn't even an imporvement over Souray. Ribs will have a great season this year. It would be a mistake to give up on him now.
I don't really see how either trade helps us. We pick up Lang, but then we don't have any solid center for the PK. I'll admit, I'm a Bonk fan, but Lang doesn't help us at all.
Greg de Vries is an excellent #3 defenseman, but nothing more. If you were planning on replacing Bouillon with him, then fine, but Souray is more useful to the team, and de Vries isn't anything spectacular on the PP.
srry forgot to mention that the 2nd trade proposal is only to be considered if the 1st trade where ever to happen. Thats why I added ribs in the 2nd one. I'm not sure if this will alter your opinions
It still doesn't change the fact that Souray is better than DeVries, and Ribeiro is better than nothing. Even if we did pick up Lang, and wanted to unload Ribeiro, we could probably just find a taker for a mid-round pick, and keep Souray.
