Official - J.P. Dumont to Nashville!!

Been said here in Montreal at 98,5fm radio that the signing will be announce this morning. No details as to the salary though.

I check RDS and TSN and nothing has been reported yet, but if somebody else heard it elsewhere than my source please feel free. Anyway we'll know soon 'cause the sports guy (Alain Crete) did say this morning.

I'll check later and if this news has been discussed already, I'll delete this.

Just a hunch, but I don't think he'd accept much of a discount from his arbitration award.

At this point, I think he'll take what's offered.

But when no one has Cap room for a 3 million dollar winger, you have to bite your tongue and take the pay cut

I just heard on XM this morning that Dan Hamhuis's agent has spoken to Nashville's GM for a total of two minutes over the past two weeks.

From that I thought he must have had something brewing, be it a trade or a UFA signing. Nashville just got deeper I guess.

To follow up, the only way this makes sense if someone is else is on the move. Hartnell, who's do to be an UFA after this season, makes the most sense. This also assumes that Dumont signs a multi-year deal.

Say you didn't move Hartnell...who would get knocked out of your top six? Hartnell? Erat? I can't see Sullivan playing a third line role.

The question isn't our top six, but our top nine.

Kariya- Arnott- Erat/Radulov
Hartnell- Legwand- Sullivan
Erat/Tootoo- Vasicek- Upshall

If Radulov makes the team, Tootoo moves to the fourth line and Erat probably moves to the third.

If we add Dumont to the mix, problems occur because no player is waiver eligible with the exception of Radulov.

There is one other possibility. Kariya is also an UFA after this season. We definitely would like to re-sign him, but if we can't...

If I were Nashville, I don't think I would sign Dumont and get rid of Kariya. The team just gets weaker. If this happens, your Hartnell suspicion sounds about right...still doesn't strike me as much of an upgrade though.

Nashville is certainly one of the few teams that has tons and tons of cap space for the move, anyway. If the Habs had tons and tons of space, I'd be all for signing a good/decent player like Dumont too, even if we didn't obviously need him, even if there wasn't a clear spot in the lineup for him. Based on what we've seen post-lockout, signed assets are only appreciating in value.

I'm sure it's been said - but an arbitrator is trying to approximate fair market value for the contract. Sometimes they do a really poor job, and then the team walks away. If a team walks away from an arbitrator's decision - it means they feel the award isn't "market value", because if it was, they'd sign the player and then trade him for something.

Figures Eklund posts it as an e5 4 hours after Montreal radio stations pick it up and gives them no credit whatsoever, this fraud needs to have his website shut down.
