OT - NHL 07 Player Ratings

Just for fun, I saw this on the other boards around here.

http://sports.ign.com/nhl07/ottawa.html

Just change the team name if you want to see how other teams measure up.

Spezza's 92 speed is a bit optimistic, as is Heatley's 87. Volchenkov is an 84.

Then again, Jeff O'Neill has a speed of 90.

The ratings are pretty bad. We've known this for years when it comes to rating EA isn't in the game.

I think the game mechanics prohibit a really good player like Jason Spezza from having a moderate or average speed.

Otherwise, he wouldn't be competitive enough when used by the game's AI.

I love how they have Alfie listed as a "grinder" with agression of 87 and checking of 89. Some other ratings are funny too like Theodore a 90 and Kaberle an 83 while Kubina is an 86. No chance in hell is Kubina better than Kaberle.

i will agree that the 2K series has more accurate rating, but the NHL series has much better game play and is more realistic IMO.

Also, heatley's shot should be much better!

They didnt change any of the ratings from the previous season. Almost all of Ottawas players have stayed the same. Are you sure these arent the adjusted ratings from the previous season.

Vermette has barely gone up 70-72 Spezza has gone up everyone else is the exact same. This doesnt make much sense.

Once again, EA under-rated Mike Fisher. He should at least be in the low 80s if not mid.

Hmmm, what doesn't make sense is Gerber is only 85, yet Raycroft is an 89

Phillips a 76?

Kelly a 66 with McGrattan a 64?

According to EA sports we might have the worst defense in the league...

Vermette's got 78 speed. For comparison, Heatley is an 87, Volchenkov an 84 and Barinka a 78.

McGrattan is also faster (73 speed) than Kelly (72 speed) apparently.

Kelly Only a 66

Alfie a Grinder

Meszaros only a 76 but comparing it to rookie Dion Phaneuf and his 89 rating. They're not that far apart in the real game.

Schaefer's rougher play is once again not added in this game. How do you expect him to win a fight around the boards with mid 60s in toughness and checking

Fisher a 79.. Figured the Selke Nominee would've gotten him a little higher but brindamour (82) and Lethinen (82) didn't shape up that well either.
No love for the 2 way player I guess

Preissing a deffensive defenseman. After putting up top 30 points amongst dmen I hope he can also play well in the deffensive end.. Although I could never see him as anything but an offensive defenseman in this game.

You know they only have mediocre broad general NHL knownledge when you have Redden with a 91 / 94 slapshot and Schubert with a 67.

Our only player above 80 in faceoffs is Steve Martins who doesn't even play for us

Dany Heatley has 93 checking!

According to this game Spezza's our second fastest player and Vermette is our 11th fastest. with a 72 overall and a 78 speed rating!

and those were only the things that jumped out to me. If you made player to player comparisons I'd have a list 20X as big as this!

Thank EA for the edit player feature.

It's evident that EA definitly isn't "In the Game"

Souray's an 87? Makes sense. I'd put him top 10 D in the league any day of the week.
Man, these ratings suck. This is why I stick to the 2K games. Plus the gameplay is much better as well.

One thing that shocked me most:

Brisebois -> DEFENSIVE D-man .

Don't worry EA loves some two way forwards. They gave Holik a 85.

The fact is, EA has to compensate for a screwed up AI (like NyQuil alluded to). They are tailoring the ratings to fit into their AI, when the opposite should be happening.

ie.) If they gave Schubert his actual ratings (87 speed, 92 slapshot, 89 checking), he'd be awesome. But the AI cannot account for hockey IQ. Heatley should be 76 speed, 94 slapshot, 74 checking.

In conclusion, EA sucks.

Yeah you're right about that. In most of their games speed is the most important thing. And a slow player is awful.

My friend thinks Cliff Ronning is the best player in the game in 06 or 05.

It's a proof. A proof is a proof, and when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven.

These ratings are so out of whack. Looking at other players' stats...Alex freakin Kotalik is all of a sudden a power foward and better than the likes of Mike Fisher. HAL GILL is better than Volchenkov, and nearly the same as Phillips. RADEK BONK is better than Mike Fisher. Mike Ribeiro at 85 is probably the game's biggest joke though.

Can't wait for 2k7.

Pretty good...I'd lessen the defense on Kaigs though, and maybe switch Phillips/Volchenkov's offense.
