PROPOSAL: Columbus & San Jose

Althought I don't think that as a San Jose guy, I would want to see this trade happen, I want to see what unbiased people would have to say about this, if it were to happen.

Norenna & Klesla for Nabokov & McLaren

Is that about even or am I way off base?

Interesting... but we don't really need another goalie. Schaefer can be the backup because it's either we lose him or he's on the NHL team (So I've heard...)

I would keep McLaren and Nabokov in I were San Jose, unless they want to make a move that would put them over the cap. Still not a bad value, I've seen WAY worst.

no...We've already lost enough experience on the blueline the past two seasons, lets not lose McLaren. I'd do it if we had more blue line experience but right now I can't see us doing it.

The Blue Jackets will hesitate to add ~7,5 million of salary to the team, while Nik Zherdev is still left unsigned. I'm not a Jackets fan, but I'm pretty condifent that Leclaire will have a solid season. Klesla seems to need a little longer to devolp them other young defenseman & I remember BJ fans being confident that he'll further improve this season. Nabokov had a medicore season & has signed a long term contract and this is an issue.

It's not a bad proposal, but I feel that the Sharks aren't receiving enough in return, valuewise. Also, I think that Nabokov will regain the starting job this season and that Toskala will be traded.

From a Columbus perspective. No thanks. Besides the salary, here are the reasons:

No interest at all in Nabokov. We have our #1 goalie in LeClaire and were confident enough in him to trade away Denis. We also have a stable of backups Norrena, Conklin, etc that we think can fill in when needed. This is obviously no knock on Nabokov's talent, it's just not an area of need for Columbus.

So, this trade then comes down to McLaren for Klesla.

I love McLaren, but I'd rather not give up on Klesla at this point. He's finally turning into the D-man we thought we drafted and I see no need to move him just as he's entering his prime. He played very well last year, showed good leadership and has really bulked up. Not to mention, he's on a great contract.

Funny ... when I first entered this thread I was sure it was going to be XXX for Zherdev.

No thanks from SJ.

We already have plenty of defensemen and have Schafer coming up to fill the empty spot in goal that trading one of Nabkov or Toskola would create. I alos agree that we need to keep all the experience on defense we have on the team.

So if LeClaire goes down with yet another injury, does Columbus plan on starting Conklin?

Either Conklin or Norrena -- depends who performs the best in camp.

Intriguing proposal...but I can't see either SJ or C-Bus going forward with this one.

Looking from SJ's side of things, I can't see them dealing an experienced blueliner in McLaren for one that's as of yet still unproven in Klesla (albeit Rusty's got a LOT of potential to be a good one and has made some definite strides towards that...not quite there yet, but he's close). Also, what's to say that Nabby doesn't take his starting job back from Toskala, making Vesa expendable instead?

From the Columbus side of things, I really can't see them all that willing to add payroll (last time I checked, McLaren and Nabokov both made quite a bit) when they have Zherdev's contract to worry about still. Also, they seem pretty confident that a tandem of Leclaire and either Conklin or Norenna can do the job. If they're gonna move a goalie, it'll probably be Denis well before Norenna.

On paper, this is a pretty good offer, though.

i absolutely love mclaren, but asking for klesla is kinda like asking for our first born son. i don't think we will ever give up on him(besides, he's gonna rock this year).

as for the goalies...like everyone else says, we just don't need nabokov. leclaire will do fine to say the least and norrena will be his back up.

If Brodeur goes down to injury.....Luongo....Kiprusoff, etc etc. You kinda deal with it when you need to. Sometimes it backfires, but Columbus is going into the season expecting Leclaire to be the #1. Ie, they don't have a lot of motivation right now to acquire a 5 million dollar goalie. At least not until they see what Leclaire can do as the undisputed #1.

Nabokov >>>> Norrena
McLaren >> Klesla

So I would say no.

Definitely have to pass from a SJ perspective. The sharks cant afford to give up the experience that Mclaren gives us on the blueline just to dump Nabby.

While it would be nice to move Nabby before the season starts, but if you cant get a proper return for him you just keep him and let the best goalie play.

I Like Klesla a lot, and I'd love to dump Nabby's salary, but I have to say no for San Jose. This is almost purely because of the experience factor of McLaren. Removing Kyle and his 9 seasons from the lineup suddenly means that Hannan is the only guy on the roster with more than 4 years of NHL experience (he has 6 seasons)

I also don't think Columbus is interested in such an expensive insurance policy for Leclaire, especially since it's a hefty contract and their young cornerstone blueliner.
