What did the #1 pick that got traded to San Jose with Alyn McCauley turn out to be?

Bernier? Although I vaguely remember them doing a deal that day - so they possibly either moved up or down from the original pick. It was 16th overall...so I think they moved up.

Bernier was drafted 16'th, their own pick.... I wish the Leafs had him.

I think he's Boston property. Did SJ trade him? ( I have a bad memory :p )

SJ traded the pick to Boston. Forget what they got back.

A big man would be good up front for the Leafs, but let's not get all Bobby Clarke/"big good" here. I remember his caveat emptor at the draft was the fact that he had no sense of a training regimen and was more or less out of shape. From what I've heard this year from people is that he hasn't improved his skating much if at all, and he seems completely disinterested in anything going on behind his own blue line.
I wish that the Leafs had traded up a couple of spots to get O'Sullivan. That would have been nice to see.

Its funny. There was speculation on draft day that O'Sullivan was the guy the Leafs wanted. He was picked one spot ahead of the Leafs, and I remember the radio guys talking about how Trapp /Penny and Quinn were looking over their notes in a way that suggested that they were going for a '2nd choice'...

For all questions re: the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, I suggest using the TSN.ca Entry Draft page.

For this particular question:

Pick 16 (Boston to San Jose) - Boston traded its 16th pick overall to San Jose for Nos. 21, 66 and 107 in the 2003 draft.
