Been away for awhile. Need an update on Gleason's play this year. Also, any interest in Miro Satan?
i'm pretty into gleason, he's playing better than i thought he would before the season. pretty solid in his own end, can occasionally land a big hit, hasn't put up many points, only 1 assist i think, but joins the rush at excellent times and definately has offensive potential. he's been playing with aaron miller, and its doing him a lot of good.
on the downside, he occasionally takes himself out of plays trying to draw penalties. on balance though, he's playing very well.
I like Gleason. He played a good game tonight against the Preds, I thought. He made some key blocks in front of Cechmanek. He made some smart plays. I'm glad he's playing with Miller. Miller is a good role model for him.
I've been impressed with his decision making ability. He just seems to know when to turn on the jets and join the rush. That 2-on-1 with Palffy in the third was a perfect example. Too bad the pass didn't connect. Hopefully the Kings will actually hang on to their young talent this time around. Frolov, Brown, Gleason, Squid and Aulin. With Grebeshkov, Kanko and Tambellini waiting in the wings.

I like him too. You don't notice him out there which means he isn't making mistakes.
An excellent year so far for Gleason. The bloke is supposed to be struggling with his play as young defencemen and yet, he is playing well enough to not only fly under the radar (no big mistakes) but he is even having the odd great game. Last night was one of them. I just finished watching last nights game and what a beauty of a runner he had. I saw him make some great plays in his end. Of course, he was recovering from being out of position but, it shows his pure talent in that he realized his mistake and did what it takes to repair it. It also shows his competitve edge because he not only saw his mistakes, but was made roddy sure that he got back to cover in time.
Gleason for Smoke is a deal that I would make again and again. I didn't think we would see him for a couple of more years at best but I am absolutely impressed with him so far. I think allot of us forget that defence is *the* hardest position to matriculate from level to level with. Most young D men take a few years of call ups prior to sticking so he is an absolute striker for doing so well. With him and Grebs at the center of our young D we look good for years to come.

Don't forget Petiot (who has all the makings of a Miller) and (hopefully) Rome. Not to mention Visnovsky and Corvo will still be around for a while yet.
As for Gleason, he clearly has the natural abilities. Terrific skater, good offensive awareness, can be physical etc.
That said, he still has to work on his decision making. He is prone to making a fair amount of stupid plays but luckily he hasn't been burned too much. (in part due to sheer luck and also in part due to his natural ability which enables him to recover from mistakes)
I personally would prefer he be in the AHL right now (mainly because I really believe this team needs another banging, savvy defensman who can play the PK) but Kings brass seem to feel otherwise.
I totally agree. Petiot is a young studd and from what I was told by those of you who had the luxury of watching him at camp, he is a dandy. Rome is supposed to be a blue line special too. Here is the list for me, help me out if I forget someone.
Future D.
Grebs/Vis
Gleason/Corvo
Rome/Zizka etc.
Not listed in any pairing order of value. Just a list of who I think our toppers are among the kids at this moment.
I agree with everyone here, but when I was at camp it looked like Rome was a lot better. Anyways, it's a great future ahead.
Gleason is a kid playing a man's game right now, and he doesn't look out of sorts, his future IMO can be compared to a Rob Blake. I know that's stretching it a bit, but it's not out of the question. I think what most of us forget is that Gleason is known for being an offensive defenseman, and we won't see that probably for another two years. He has tremendous upside, and if you think about it most good D are late bloomers in this league anyways. ***** he's only twenty. At this stage the only thing he is trying to do is survive, and not make any mistakes, and he's doing a great job!
I couldn't agree more, swinginutter! Just thinking about the future makes me happy. DT and the boys have done an excellent job at drafting and trading for prospects.
It's hard to believe Gleason is only 20 years old (my age!)... and he's out there doing a fantastic job for a rookie. His nerves are good and is great to watch him out there hitting and checking people. The Smolinski trade is looking better and better everyday. At first I was mad that the Kings traded Smoke, but now that we've seen Gleason, I couldn't be happier.
Wow, the Gleason bandwagon just got really full. Where were all you when we were rating the Kings prospects?
that was before the season, wasn't it? everything i had heard about gleason before the season was that he was overrated and would need lots of ahl seasoning.

As far as I'm concerned, he could still use it. I think the Kings were expecting Grebs to make it out of camp and have Gleason developing in Manchester. But as it turned out, Grebs still needs some time getting used to the NA game and Miller was out with an injury so Gleason was pressed into service. By the time Miller came back, Gleason was playing pretty well so they kept him on board. It remains to be seen if he can keep it up all year as rookies often go thru a lull after about the 20th game.
As long as he maintains quality defense and doesn't worry about trying to put points up on the board, he'll be servicable on this team. But I think that Gleason would not make the roster of most other contending teams. He should be down in Manchester, but as the cards fell he landed in LA and I'm hoping he makes the most of it.
I'm on the Gleason bandwagon because I think it is remarkable any time a 20 year old makes an NHL roster. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. He still has a lot of developing to do.
