Matt Foy

Hey Wild fans,

I was curious as to what Matt Foy's future is. I liked what I saw of him when he was playing for the Ottawa 67's, and at the time, wished that Ottawa had drafted him instead, being a player of size and offensive touch. The knock on him was that he didn't have the speed for the NHL game though.

Has he improved at all in this regard? Does he have a shot at cracking the Wild roster this year? He's getting a little older now, so, the chance of making it as an NHLer is getting smaller every year.

Thanks,

Last preseason and the few games he got into in the reg. season I thought he looked fast enough. He impressed Lemaire enough to say this after an early game against Vancouver:
(talking about hustling) "He does that every shift since we called him up,'' Lemaire said. "He's a guy that has million-dollar legs and he gets going.''

I don't really know how he looked in Houston later in the year, though. Early on last season I thought he was pretty close to earning a spot. I'd expect that again this year.

I hope he makes the wild roster, he's a good guy and a hard worker.
I remember playing shinny hockey with him after school back in the day, crazy ****.
Will try harder to follow the Wild organization this year and see what happens with The Foyster

Hmm, I had always heard that Foy had a great set of wheels for a big guy. Not thinking of Wanvig are you?

I only watched a bit of Foy, but, I remember his speed being one of the issues that about him. I remember it by cited as a reason he wasn't considered for the WJC for Canada that year. It's quite possible that those issues were overblown, and, by the time he showed up to the Wild's camp, he had improved in those areas. He was always a player that appeared to work hard on the ice, so, it would be no suprise if he worked hard off the ice to improve in any areas that he felt he needed to.
