Brooks Orpik

How good is this guy gonna be? I've heard him described as Rob Blake, without the big shot. Red Wing fan here (please don't hate me) so I've never seen the guy play. If possible, could you give a numbers projection, say, 3 years from now? G, A, +/-, PIM.....stuff like that. Will he be a top 4 defenseman? Thanks a lot, all the answers are greatly appreciated. Bear in mind I did scour the forum last night, and got some great info on he and a few other Pens prospects. I just figured a more direct approach would be what I needed. Thanks again!

while im not one for stats projection, and i cant see the games, i'll tell you what i know.

he has been our most consistent d-man so far, and does hit a lot. he has already racked up a fair amount of pim, but for the most part he has been disciplined and is noticbly improving.

while he isnt very offensive, he isn lacking in the are as say Melichar or Bergevin are. I dont think many, if any se him becoming a Blake. A Stevens is more likely as Orpik too is an open ice hitter. And most definitely he wil become a top 4 d-man. many project a #1 or #2.

Orpik is a real defensive defenseman. He'll be one of the best hitters in the league for years to come but unlike the last big hitter on the blue line the Pens had he can actually play defense.

As (M)eth said though, 20-25 points would be a career year for him. I would compare him more to Adam Foote or Derian Hatcher as well.

Lets not compare him to Blake.
He's more like Derian Hatcher.
Lately, he goes in the offensive zone and tries to make a good scoring play, thats why the comparison to a young Hatcher is correct.

He's a HITTER, he's by far our best defenceman, and he will be a #1-2 in years to come.
I see him on team USA in the future.

Orpik can handle the puck, it seems. Nothing end-to-end, but he has nifty little moves that would keep a puck within the zone, or make a clever outlet pass. That's about the extent of it, though.

What I like about him is that he is improving every time he plays. Someone mentioned his outlet pass and that his is nifty in his own end. I think all that is true. I love Foote and I only hope he can be just as good in a few years. But, I do think he is our best defenseman right now and defenitly be a # 2 D-man in the league.

You guys have got it all wrong. Orpik's actually a lot closer in style to Adam Foote, or even Derian Hatcher.

Based on the replies in this thread, Orpik is pretty overrated by Penguins fans. He certainly won't ever be in the same league as Hatcher or Foote.
I see him as a Gauthier or Jason Smith type, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

same here.

His style is closer to a Foote or Hatcher, but we'll be lucky if he does become that good. But it's definitely in the realm of possibility.

Sorry. I've seen so many completely foolish posts on HFboards that it's hard to spot the sarcasm.

Orpik is right now in his rookie year as good as Gauthier (who is severly overrated BTW).
While he might not develop into another Foote, he has all the tools to do so.
I find nothing wrong with that.

Of course you find something wrong with everything.

I just say "Who cares what/if he players like??" I am enjoying watching a reasonably steady progression and the grit and determination he wears on his sleeve.

What makes you think you have?
Be a little more modest, it won't hurt.

Your ego is way too big for a guy whose quality of post is so low.

I'm not your "Bro". And perhaps I said something because when I come to a board called Pittsburgh Penguins I'd prefer to not have to sift through petty BS.

-No I see things the way they are. With my crystal ball.

I'd say all we have here is opinions. Somebody saying that all the others are wrong because he "likes to think (he) has a good grasp on reality" is not being modest enough IMO.
