I'm watching Zhilina vs. HPK in chapmpions cup...it's already 5:0 finns...Now I know that Zhilina is doing pretty bad this year, but still upsetting, as I was rooting for Slovaks

cska78, maybe you can tell me about Roman Tomanek.....I started a thread a little while ago asking about him but didn't get any replies! Do you know how he's doing? Is he committed enough to make hockey his career?

As you can see the fan's are into it.

Anyone have any info on youth hockey in Nitra? I'm amazed that such a small city with one rink can produce the players it does. Saw a segment during the Panther game and how they have three players from Nitra (Stumpel being one of them) That type of skill level coming from one rink is sick
Hi i'm from Nitra. We've got 2 rinks actually. . In Panthers there is also Mezei and Kolnik from Nitra. Juraj Kolnik's older brother Lubomir Kolnik is well-respected veteran and sniper in Nitra hockey team (actuall name is HK Dynamax Oil Nitra).

Ziggy Palffy played here as well before going to NHL. Last years there are several hot prospects waiting for their chance in NHL team such as Boris Valabik drafted in first round by Atlanta or Stefan Ruzicka who played few matches for Flyers, now in AHL.

If you wanna know more check this sites (unfortunately only in slovak).
Official club site: www.hkmnr.sk
Fans site: www.fans.sk (many fans photos and videos)

There were so many penalties in yesterday's game between Poprad and Bratislava!!!
It looks like these guys are desperate to win, because this is now a seven-game series that eliminates one team, right? And can you please translate UDERY and HOD_H? Thanks!

This is from the extraliga game summary on szlh.sk, and was a 10 minute penalty, I think - just tried to confirm that but there's a problem with the site at the moment......

The page still isn't working but did you happen to see the stats for that game? There must have been a big brawl! I didn't think hockey was like that in Europe....although I did see the video clip of a game in Romania, I think it was, on a different thread and it was totally crazy!!!

Brawl? Just two fights (which account for the 4 5+10+game penalties) and 15 2-minute penalties...

So Mikuláš and Zilina didn't reach the play-offs, and Martin and Skalica are out now too, right? Are any of the teams left heavily favoured to win?
And what is the name of the cup, again, please?

Looked unusual, that's all. In the stats I've seen, there haven't been many 10 and 20 minute penalties. Especially in one game.

I think all fights get the 5+10+game penalty here. I ain't sure, though. But it's the sort of thing one can expect from a league dumb enough to have shootouts in playoffs...

And here everyone knows the Stanley Cup, even if they don't like hockey! I think it would be very hard to find anyone in Canada who wouldn't recognize it!

Another thing that I have been wondering.....on the SZLH game summaries, it looks to me like the roster is divided into first line, second line, etc.,etc., but these lines are different almost every game. Do they really change up the lines that much, or are the players just listed in no particular order. Also, is it very common for players to be moving between extraliga and 1. liga all the time? And is there anywhere to find out where a particular player will be on any given night? We are trying to follow a half dozen guys and it is so hard to keep track of where they are at!

Depends on coach/team, but lines tend to be a bit less steady than in the NHL.

Not that very common, well, 4th liners/juniors might get called up and down, but other than those, not really. Dunno where'd you find actual rosters (not expected ones) before the games, though. Sorry.

Thanks! I'll keep this address for next season.

Incidentally, how is it that a Slovak ends up in Quebec?
