hell half the team is gone, it'll be interesting when the banner is raised
It's the way of life in the AHL. Heck, when the Bears won the Cup in 1997, the home opener the following season featured the Hamilton Bulldogs as our opponent. Their starting goalie was J. F. Labbe, who had taken the Bears to the Cup a few short months earlier.
With the exception of Peter Vandermeer (what the hell were they thinking), I'm happy with the free agent signings, and the Caps have a good bunch of young players coming through, so I'm pretty pumped up for the opener. Not crazy about opening with two weekends on the road, but they'll have plenty of support for those games.
Interesting quote by Hanlon regarding Flash as far as keeping him playing a position he has been playing at (LW)
Quote:
In the wake of last season's dazzling-dominating playoff performance, it's hard to imagine what more the third-year pro has to prove in the AHL. But the Caps are deep at left wing, and head coach Glen Hanlon snuffed speculation that Fleischmann might switch to right wing.
"No, I want him to come here and play his best," Hanlon said.
"Because of the season he had and how well he played in the playoffs, I think everything you read is that he is projected to move into this lineup. I think there's pressure that comes with that when you're 22 years old. I don't want to add on, have him try to play another position."
Having Clymer on D opens a spot on the wing. If Flash starts the season with the caps, gets sent down after a few games and is the first callup if Semin or Ovechkin misses a game then I think thats a pretty good situation for him. We seem very very deep this year, which I like.
Strung, I was just coming to post that news, very interesting about Dovgan.
Here's Leone's article about recent Bears' signings, as well as Dovgan coming to training camp.
Forward Brendan Bernakevitch with Bears contract
Defenseman Busenberg signed to an AHL/ECHL contract
Defensemen Jeff State and Dovgan (non-contract invitees from what I can tell)
Also, if anyone is going to the game in Hershey on Sunday, Leone writes that Kolzig, Ovechkin, Elias and Brodeur are expected in the respective line-ups.
Hmm...looks like Viktor Dovgan is listed on the Bears training camp list.
Neat.
Wow, that is pretty cool. Wouldn't hurt Dovgan's dev to get him over to Hershey. Though there are a lot of rookie D already there...Pokulok/Schultz/Hunt and I'm forgetting someone now, lol.

Pokulok, Schultz, and Hunt are the only ones. Well, theyre the only Caps prospect rookies in the AHL, which are the only ones as far as I'm concerned. on Forward they have Stefanishion and Werner who are rookies though. A 4th rookie prospect on D wouldn't hurt, plus MacNeill after juniors this year if he's still in the system by that time.
"Hershey Bears training camp doesn't officially begin until today, but 18 players were on Hersheypark Arena ice yesterday engaged in an unofficial workout.
Among them were Louis Robitaille, Joey Tenute, Dean Arsene, Jonas Johansson and Deryk Engelland, all participants in the whirlwind 2005-06 Calder Cup season."
Leone writes Klepis may play center in Hershey this season
Looking promising about Dovgan - the Bears site roster has been modified - looks like the tc roster now (the players still with the Caps have been temporarily removed and invites are added). I added a * for players with Bears contracts and ** for the players I believe are training camp invites; please update/correct; I wonder if they are bringing in another goalie just for the weekend until Daigneault or Cassivi joins camp
