Kings need a defenseman in a bad way.

Richard Petiot, one of our 2 young up and coming blueliners (along with Kevin Dallman), tore his ACL at the Pacific Division prospects camp. Kings are going to need another young semi capable of playing in the NHL, defensemen, predominately to be used in Manchester. Although I'd rather have Petiot, or an injury replacement be used as the Kings #7 and Mike Weaver be sent back down to the AHL. So in other words, the Kings/Monarchs need a semi capable defenseman.

Since it was brought up on the Kings board, I'll start the bidding at Eric Belanger + for Freddy Meyer.

Matt Jones from Phoenix?

I wouldn't worry about defense...Miller, Blake, Sopel, Norstrom, Visnovsky, Gleason, Dallman...Gleason and Dallman are both young ...I'd worry about adding someone up front.

You also have a guy named Peter Harrold. Watch out for him!

Belanger for Meyer has no hope. The Flyers are really high on him and don't have the room to be blowing off defenseman who actually help the team.

Not only that, but the Flyers still need to subtract a forward or two, not add them. All Kesler would do is take up Primeau's spot, they still have too many

I'm sure the Leafs would be willing to part with one of Wozniewski/Harrison/Bell/Kronwall/Pilar. Any of them would be an adequate #7 if the need truly exists. All have shown brief flashes of potential, but they are solid, yet unspectacular players.

What about Richie Regehr or Mark Giordano from Calgary?

With one of those players, plus Brad Ference and Tim Ramholt in Omaha, we can spare one of them. Both are still have nowhere near hit their potential.

The Leafs have an excess of young defencemen and not enough spots for them all. Jay Harrison, Andy Wozniewski, or Brendan Bell could be available.

You will have a bunch of capable players go through the waiver wire at the end of training camp.

No need to panic in order to fill a 6th/7th D role.

Joe Melichar or Rob Scuderi. Take your pick.

No, we don't need anything in return.

Andreas Lilja is available (or would be, if I were in charge). The Wings have enough guys where they could stand to lose him, cheap. He makes 1 mil a year. Any young forwards you're not using? We'd also settle for draft picks.....

I dind't think so, KB proposed it, I thought I'd see what others thought of it, and no way it'd ever just be Belanger for Meyer.

We've got plenty of guys up front, as a matter of fact, we probably have too many.

But here in lies the problem with the defense. Both Visnovsky and Miller are guaranteed to go down with an injury at some point in the season.

That could leave us with, Blake, Sopel, Norstrom, Gleason, Weaver and Dallman as our defense. With possibly someone like Buckley or Harrold as the #7. That's downright scary.

But there's more, at the AHL level that'd leave our defense as Mormina, Buckley/Harrold and Werner. Plus whatever other scrubs the Monarchs offered for a tryout.

I doubt Lombardi would go that route, especially since both Brown and Gleason are both still RFA's.

That's true, but I think that the Kings would greatly prefer someone who is exempt from waivers, since this player will need to bounce up and down between the NHL and AHL all season.
