When's the last time the Flyers were 1st overall?

At any point in a season, when was last time we were number 1? Was it back in 1980 with Quin coaching? Or have we been number since then?

I'm asking because we're so damn close to it now that I can taste it.

1st in the Conference matters to me more than 1st overall, but if being the former means that latter, then all the better. First thing first though, the division title. We all saw the benefits of being a top seed, or rather, the cons of being a four seed.

Here's how I see it: We haven't been 1st overall, and we haven't won the cup.

If we get 1st overall, maybe we'll win the cup!

LOL. I know it's far-fetched, but Dallas (with our current coach) and Detroit did it in 1999 and 2002 respectively.

First in the conference doesn't mean sqwuat unless we play our ***** off until we raise the stanley cup in June. We have won the EAST before and got eliminated first round. 1st seed is very scary, you know that 8th seeded team is hungry. Would i like it? Of course, does it bring guarantees? No way in HELL. Am I loving the fact that we are but a win away from first overall? @#$% YEAH!!!!!

1st in June IF the Flyers are skating around with that silver cupis all that matters to me. Other then that winning the Presidents trophy means nothing to me to be honest.

Winning rounds in the playoffs means more than 1st overall.
We just need points right now. It's waaay to early to worry abut 1st overall.
We will have a rough stretch, usually after the all-star break. Don't go hopping off the bandwagon, when it hits.

At any point in a season? Didn't we hit 1st overall last year for a stretch?

I think the last two years we were right up there at times. A lot of "power rank" lists had the Flyers at #1 at various times, but I dont think we have actually been in the number 1 spot in points for quite a while.

I believe you're right, JCD. Weren't we something like 9-1-?-? to start the season? It was brief, but I believe we did hit #1 overall right off the bat.

the last time a Flyer team started 9-1-1 was the 79-80 season.
that was the year of our NHL record run
Flyers were 26-1-10 after 37 games then were drilled by the NorthStars 7-2 the next game.

In 1997 and 1999 we were first in the league for at least a little while. Those years we had 17 and 15 game unbeaten streaks. We ended up 5th in 1999 because right after our 15 game unbeaten streak, we had a 12-game winless streak and lost all the steam we had. Up to that point Eric Desjardins was considered to be in the hunt for the Norris trophy. That was the story of the season because the unbeaten streak featured a lot of wins over great teams, and the winless streak featured a lot of bad losses to bad teams and Roger Neilson throwing sticks on the ice.

The Flyers, 9-1-2-0, take a six-game winning streak into a home game Thursday against New Jersey. They are tied with Minnesota for first place overall.
