Really because from the tone of your posts about Helminen you seem to think he is ready..
hmm...

Slight difference in saying
"It's very possible Helminen doesn't make it, but for god's sake let's at least get the guys who did good in scrimmages into some preseason games before we make those calls."
vs.
"Saying, Helminen will make it I know that already".
What I've said is that every player get their look, but to say a player "shouldn't make it" at this point is a bit early.

well Edge I formed my opinion about Helminen after watching him play last season. From the reports I've read he hasn't really played better than Betts so your one god damn preseason game fit is nice to read but in the end i don't know why the tantrum..I hope Helminen makes it to the Rangers this season and think he will be a better pro than Betts but ~gasp~ I don't feel he is ready yet.

I am just not following certain parts:
A. What reports? Everyone always seems to read a report somewhere.
B. We just need to give all the kids a chance to see where they are in camp. That summer gap and a summer of training and reviewing the previous season makes all the difference. To me that is the strongest value of these camps, to gage where they are now, not where they were 5 months after their last regular season game.

I haven't seen him perform in camp..I've read from in my opinion a better source than Brooks that he hasn't really looked that great. Again I think Helminen can help the Rangers this year but don't think it's going to be out of training camp. Do you expect the Rangers to have another mostly injury free season? I don't and I feel they now have the depth that good (scratch that) great teams need to win. If you disagree that's fine but listen I think agree on this topic more than disagree.

I have no problem with that at all, but none of us now regardless of ANY report. Too much time passes in the off season. I think we can say "Well they were at this point when the season ended" but a handful of scrimmanges into a preseason (let alone a season) I just don't think we need to give it time. Especially in a case like Helminen were Brooks, and several other sources have commented on how sharp hes looked so far.

12 months ago we didn't see the Rangers for 18 months. Did you know what we had in these guys? Nope but now we know what we are getting from guys like Betts and Hollweg. I'm all for guys being pushed out of jobs by better players but I'm not all for rushing guys or putting players in postions to not do well.
|
Hollweg, Betts and company PLAYED during that 18 months just like these kids played in the AHL last year. We didn't know what we'd get some vets, but those rookies came in under very similar circumstances.
And SOS believe me I am not in favor of rushing anyone, but there's only so many times I can say "Let's wait till camp". That's the only way any of us can have a good idea.

Great next time generalize a little more. Hey stick all posters in the same group because that's not disrespectful at all. The next wave is here Edge and it includes Dubinsky and Dawes and they could/should be better than Hossa and Moore. Betts is an important player to the Rangers and more important than i think you are giving credit for. The Rangers took a huge hit to their pk unit..dropping Betts for another unknown (and forgive me here) would be flat out stupid.

I'm not in favor of just throwing Dwight out there on a lark, but we've got to see what he does in camp first. After that we'll know what to expect.
Betts is a good part of the team, but he's not irreplaceable. And Bett's came in with the same question marks last year that were resolved IN CAMP. He himself was an unknown and you know what, when you are team stacked with young kids you're gonna have a lot of unknown factors involved. If there weren't those factors you'd never need prospects and your roster would be set.
All I advocate is to see where these kids, all the kids are in camp. Not quoting 5 month old info, not getting into "I saw this" vs. "I saw that" but actually seeing where they are at today.

I don't know why this topic has drawn your ire, I really don't. We are down to debating 3rd/4th line centers here. You are also debating me on a topic that I agree with you on (in theory) I think Helminen is a good player but don't think he is ready to be an important PK guy. (which forget about even strength that would be his main role like that was Moores main role)
I like you Edge and you know that but we are making a moutain out of a molehill here with this..

You know what? You're 100% right and if I snipped at you I apologize.
At the end of the day all I advocate is let's see what we've got first.
