There's a bunch of threads on it, so lets try to consolidate all the salivating to one
The old HCAT got deleted in the Great Forums Purge of '03 (which, suspiciously enough, was precipitated by noted Calgary Flames fan Dr. Zoidberg...grab your pitchforks and torches, everybody!)
Anyways, it's going to be cool. Re-garding the old-timers game...well, Patrick Roy declined an invitation to participate, and it seems on the whole that Les Canadiens are older than the Oilers. However, they do have Stephane Richer, who is likely to be the most effective guy on the ice, having retired just one year ago (barring Messier of course). Guy Lafleur still isn't going to wear a helmet...
I have been absolutely pumped about this for months. The old timers game is at 4:30 est (or 2:30 est if you believe the CBC website) and the "real" outdoor game between the habs/oil is at 7:00 est. This is followed by the canucks/leafs at 10:00 est. Talk about a perfect day of hockey.
Will ther be a later showing of the game? The blues have a home game on the 22 @7 also, and i really wanted to see the heritage classic. But i have season tickets and unfortuantely wont be able to see the oils game. I seriously doubt that espn will carry the game. Even if its at 2 or 3 am id watch it. Just seeing highlights wouldnt be the same as watching the whole game.
It's an alumni game, so Messier shouldn't be allowed to play (in my opinion).
The thing is, the ex-Oilers are much younger than the ex-Habs. They should walk all over the Habs. If you think this game is entirely for fun, think again. These guys play it for fun of course, but there is a lot of pride on the line as well.
I hope the weather cooperates. Still, even if it's clear, it will still be about -10 celcius for the duration... and that's COLD.
I can't wait to see this game...I watched the Michigan/Michigan St. game outdoors andthe crowd was crazy...I think the game would have been better if it were Edmonton & Calgary palying...much more intense atmosphere...and if this a huge success they should make it annual event with the game being played in Winnepeg, so the die hard Hockey fans there can watch some good NHL action.
We won't disappoint you, Edmonton fans are known for being crazy. Loud cheering for Gretzky and the Oilers alumni. Cheers for Habs alumni, but not as loud.
It's a great time to be an Edmontonian right now. I love the City of Champions!
...ya i heard the other day that Gretzky's been workin' out for a while now. Too bad Roy wasn't playing...then the Habs might have had a chance! (but you never know)

I could be wrong, but I think that SRC/RDS are broadcasting a Habs practice session at 2:30 est. so maybe CBC is doing the same.
The old timers game should be alright, but the game that counts is gonna be nuts. I can't wait to see it....Just hope no one gets injured out there....who knows what the ice will be like..
I was at the University of Michigan/Michigan State game at MSU with 75.000 fans. A great experience and was a great time. Tailgating before the game was great so to all the people going to the game in Edmonton, enjoy the experience. Thank God for CBC in Windsor so many of the Detroiit hockey fans will be able to enjoy the 2 games; that is right after the Michigan/Ohio State football game.
I am very excited for this, it should be a great event!
Does anyone know the rosters for the two teams? Thanks.
This was posted on another site I visit...should be accurate but I can't make any guarantees.
