Rangers sign Dupont

Just a heads up that the Rangers signed Brodie Dupont this morning. The announcement should appear on the Rangers website shortly.

Russell is a small forward, which we have a lot of.

I wouldn't be extremely surprised if he isn't signed..but I do think the Rangers should sign him. He does have some nifty offensive skills. Can those skills translate to the AHL like Dawes' were able to? Who knows, but we should definitely take the chance.

We don't have to rush to sign Dornic (is he even on the radar?!) or Furrer, though, right?

Isn't he about the same size as Briere? Not saying that he is that caliber of player, but, he has shown a progression each year and should warrant a signing. IMO if you draft them and they improve you sign em.

My point was the Rangers will lose the rights to Dornic and Furrer because the deadline for signing 2003 draft picks out of Europe in June 2007.For 2004 picks it's June 2008.Big deal to both Dornic and Furrer

Medicine Hat beat Plymouth last night and MH will face Vancouver on Wednesday

Quote:
A Tigers win Wednesday against the Giants could give Medicine Hat a championship berth (if Lewiston loses to Plymouth today), or it could invoke a complicated tie-breaking procedure should Lewiston, the Quebec league champions, beat Plymouth.

In case of a three-way tie at 2-1, a formula involving goals for and against (excluding games involving Plymouth) and some long division involving goals-for comes into play. At 0-2, Plymouth would need to beat Lewiston today to qualify for at least a tie-breaker

We should sign Russell. I'd be really surprised if we did not sign him.

The host Vancouver Giants (2-0) meet the Medicine Hat Tigers (1-1) tonight (Rogers Sportsnet, 10:30 ET) in a rematch of the Western Hockey League championship series.

There will be a tiebreaker tomorrow with a spot in Friday's semifinal on the line, and the game between Vancouver and Medicine Hat will have a bearing on who is in it.

If the Giants win, they will advance to Sunday's final with a 3-0 record. Medicine Hat and Plymouth would meet in the tiebreaker, with Lewiston automatically advancing to Friday's semifinal.

A Medicine Hat win would give the Tigers and Giants 2-1 records, but Medicine Hat would make the final based on head-to-head play.

The Giants would be in the semifinal, with Plymouth and Lewiston facing off in the tiebreaker

A bit off topic but, Maxim Kondratiev is making his return to the NHL after signing a 1 year deal, 1 way deal with the Ducks. He played in Russia this past year.

Seems like he became very aggressive in the RUS this year, he racked up a whopping 142 PIM in 50 games.

hmm maybe since he was dealt 2 times in a short period of time maybe he thought hed have a better chance to make the NHL if he changed his game. I dont recall him being physical before, maybe he matured.

Mike Sauer and Medicine Hat won 1-0 tonight, and will play in the Memorial Cup Final on Sunday.

Sauer played a solid, unspectacular game.

The Maple Leafs signed Nikolai Kulemin to a NHL contract yesterday but the Leafs plan on allowing Kulemin to remain at Magnitogorsk for next season

Quote:
Kulemin will attend the Leafs' training camp in the fall but the plan is to leave him in Russia to continue his development
http://www.thestar.com/Sports/article/217626

There seemed to some confusion on Kulemin's contract status for next season. The Leafs thought his contract in Russia expired after the 2006-07 season but then a Russian newspaper reported Kulemin signed an extension for next season.Neither Leafs GM John Ferguson Jr or Leafs exec Jeff Jackson knew Kulemin's contract status in Russia for 2007-08.They couldn't confirm if Kulemin had signed a contract in Russia

The Rangers should look into making the same arrangement with Artem Anisimov.Sign him to the three entry level contract and let him play the 07-08 season with Yaroslavl.HFD is too crowded

Yeah, a bunch of Swedes have done the same thing. They will go to the camp but then return for the SEL start.

Since this can be done, which I expected all the time, I don't see any reason for concern when it comes to drafting European/Russian players. Sign them within the 2 year limit, and then leave them in Europe for about 2 more years.

Don't know if anyone else saw it, but I just saw the Saginaw Spirit team bus heading south on Broadway in Manhattan. Think Pyatt has something to do with it?

'Drats was aggressive in the NHL too..

that was his problem. Unlike Toots, he lacked the necessary composure (go figure, a 22 year old who wasn't fully mature yet).

That explains it. I've seen that bus and one or two others more than once in NYC.
