Oilers Sign Oates

Good news for Edmonton for once. They need a faceoff winning Centre pretty bad.

Now make Comrie sit and deal him at next year's draft.

Very interesting! An actual name in Edmonton! I have to admit, I didn't think Oates would ever sign here because of money issues. I thought he was being greedy, because I heard he only wanted to sign in certain places for a certain amount of money. I guess I was wrong. No matter the amount though, I'm glad he picked a small market team like the Oilers. I'm pretty excited about this.

Yeah, I think this means Comrie might be sitting for a while...

Oates is still good enough to play in the NHL. I'm glad he has found something.

Excellent news. If I'm a winger on the Oilers I'm a happy camper right now.

As for Comrie, he can kiss my ass. Stick it to him Kevin.

Maybe, maybe not. Now that we have that Centreman that we despertely needed, Lowe can look for help at any position. Maybe Lowe was being offered some good wingers? Maybe Comrie now gets dealt for a top4 Defenceman. So we get Oates for nothing and whatever we get for Comrie is almost just like a bonus! This is a great move by the Oilers.

Maybe letting Marchant leave wasn't a good idea after all.

Great signing by the Oilers. Have a nice year Mike.

Smyth - Oates - Hemsky
Torres - York - Dvorak

This is the first time in recent memory that the Oilers have two good scoring lines.

I'm so happy the OIl signed Adam Oates. Now they actually have someone who can win faceoffs. He also gives them leadership and a legitamate #1 center

They already have him up on the roster on the website. #37 - Adam Oates. Looks good already!

Great signing by the Oilers. Oates is excellent in faceoffs and can still produce offense. Looks like Comrie is going to sit out for a while.

Why, you guys dont need him & I hardly think that this puts the Oil in the Canucks league.
Best thing about the deal is it puts Lowe even moreso in the drivers seat when it comes little puke.Wonder what Winter will say about all this (oh , I forgot , he has to honor the Media blackout)

I think this deal addresses some of the Oilers concerns... Reasoner is out, so Oates can replace his roster spot for now... he gives them a good faceoff man and an elite passing pivot - which could only help guys like Hemsky and Smyth to get to becoming more dominant offensively.

It also gives Lowe more options in dealing Comrie... yes, they can make him sit and wait, but they can also now look at dealing him for help on defense...

this signing makes the Oilers a better team, and this affects our division, and the other teams in it - like the Canucks.

I'm confused too. Why 37? I was just about to order my Oates #77 Jersey

Just kidding.

Maybe it's to honor Snyder.

For those who wonder, Sportsnet is reporting that Oates will be paid $2 Mil per/annum. He also has incentives which could land him an extra $150,000 if the Oilers make it to the playoffs.
Great move by Lowe. A veteran like Oates will immediately improve the team and add some needed character.
