Phantoms sign Craig Berube

Keith Jones said this morning on 610 that the Chief has signed with the Phantoms.

As a player. He was in Flyers camp earlier in the year in hopes of getting picked up by a NHL team. This is the best he could do for now. With Stock and Berube, Phantoms games will be, at the least, fun.

Seems Stock is injured for awhile. You sure that story wasn't a punchline?

I know they're from Canada. Native American, American Indian, Canadian First Nations, they all mean the same thing, just like black and African-American mean the same thing.

Yeah I was talking with Berube on Monday night - had dinner with him right after he did a radio show at my friend's country club. Really nice guy, was saying how excited he was to get back into hockey....

Well, if the phantoms are going to suck, might as well fill them with goons. Protect the kids you wanna bring up, and teach them to defend themselves. Berube could teach a thing or two to Woy, teach him to play with an edge.

One of the problems with the Phantoms is too much ice time to vets and not enough devpt for the younger guys - Ok they may stink but better to find out what guys like Kane, Sharp, and Able can actually do. What happened to the promise to shift to more youth with this team that was discussed when signing some college free agents? There is a HUGE gap in our system with regards to forwards (aside from Sharp) who could be impact players in the NHL within the next few years. Yes, this draft was encouraging with Carter and Richards showing good promise (likely a few years away) and Ruzicka has been good in the minors as well so far. Fraser may see the NHL but is also a long way off. Droz would be nice to see on an NA rink, and Brunelle has fallen off the map to the ECHL.
Somebody give me some hope for the forward spot (Chouinard does not count as he looks like he too is fading).

Berube will only be the 4th player on the phantoms over 30 and I don't think he is going to be playing on a top line and taking away skill players ice time. 14 of the players on their current roster are 25 and younger and most of the rest are in the 26 to 28 range so I think they're doing pretty good compared to last year with playing the younger players.
