Role With Rangers Brings Shanahan Full Circle

http://newyorkrangers.com/team/train...re.asp?id=2278

good little article, laying out shannys career, adjustment to the city... how he understands the vets role...

Quote:
"I've been going back to some of the neighborhoods that I used to frequent when I was a Devil," said Shanahan. "It's kind of funny now, 17 or 18 years later, to be walking on those same streets and shopping in the same grocery stores."
Quote:
"And it's all little things. Just having to be the guy to ask where the stick room is. Or asking for directions getting to the rink and all that stuff. … I'm a rookie here."
Quote:
To this day, Shanahan speaks of Muller with the reverence he felt as an 18-year-old, and he understands the lasting impact veterans can have on the young players exposed to them. He said he has learned many things over the years, but there is one intangible that he really hopes to pass along to others.

I really, really like...

Shanahan. Even if he's not the guy I wanted more than 10 years ago, I'm still excited to see him in a Rangers uniform.

Man I tell you, when I younger he and JR were two players I would have loved to build a team around.

Shanahan will always be a guy I wished we had for 10 years just so he'd be a "Ranger" at heart, similar to what he became with the Red Wings.

When I played he was one of the biggest influences on the way I play (along with Messier and Graves.

The way I'd play the off wing and the style of play he brought to the table.

6'3, 215 pound guy who could score goals with the elite and fight with the best of them.

If he was never more than a 15 goal a season guy, he'd have made it as an enforcer.

Me too Edge...

regarding JR. And I agree about Shanahan. My cousin hung out with him a few times (my cousin's good friend played hockey with Shanny, I believe in juniors, or earlier and they used to hang occasionally). He said Shanny was nuts (wasn't a stranger to the occasional bar fight).

That's made him so great on the ice too.

The guy would just snap sometimes and no one wanted to get near him in the slot.

Shanny's already expressed he's comfortable on the Rangers and enjoys being in New York as a resident.
I saw his postgame interview with John Giannone that he already he has seen how Rangers fans
embrace new players on the team and show their appreciation for when they get the job done on the ice.

Let me put it this way, he is a team guy and I can see it already Brendan Shanahan
is going to be such a great signing for this team. No doubt in my mind.
