Schaefer injured, Alfredsson injured, Kaigodorov... so alone.

This from our good friend Kevin Lee.

"LW Peter Schaefer left the morning session with a strained groin. His status is unknown for tomorrow nights game in Philadelphia. After talking with a few people after the morning session which is split into 2 groups, one from 9-11am and the other from 11:15-1:15pm at the Bell Sensplex, I doubt Schaefer will play in Philly.

Couple the Schaefer groin injury with that of Alfredsson and this really hurts rookie Alexei Kaigorodov as these are his 2 linemates for the pre-season. The coaching staff wanted to see how he played with them throughout the pre-season.
"

Groin injuries often have to do with conditioning... I hope Schaefer and Alfie were skating in the offseason

"Hey, Alfie. Pull my groin."
"*Sigh*... I've seen this one before, Peter. I pull your groin, you fart, I pretend to be surprised, you laugh hysterically."
"No, no... it's different this time. Pull my groin."

I'm glad that, no matter how dismal things look around here, the class always shines through.

He'll play on a line with Eaves and Hamel tomorrow, and Vermette will play with Spezza and Heatley.

I hate how a lot of the success of the team depends on an unproven player by the name of Kaigorodov. If he flops, there is no second line center once again, unless Hennessy majorly steps up.

Better that they be injured in the pre-season than during the reg-season....it could always be worse.

I've felt the same way since everyone began penciling him in as the #2 guy. I don't think he'll be able to do it this year (but I damn well hope that he proves me wrong). I really really think that Fisher can take care of that spot. But I guess I am a little bias towards Fish, he's definitely one of my favourites.

The success of the team doesn't depend on Kaigorodov. You can't have everything on a team in the salary cap era. All teams have holes somewhere on their roster, it's all about how you do with what you've got.

I also like how Kaigorodov is suddenly a bum because he didn't play well in his first preseason game. It's almost as hillarious as people saying Gerber was a mistake after his performance in a freaking intersquad game. Hold off on judgements until there's at least a chunk of regular season games under his belt.

You'd think Sens fans would know from experience that the season's a marathon, not a sprint.

Exactly. Elaborating on what I was saying in the other thread... if Kaigorodov were kidnapped by a gang of ninjas, our center depth would still be solid with;
Fisher
Vermette
McAmmond
Hennesey
... all able to compete for 2 spots between Spezza and Kelly.

But then he would come back with way more physical presence!

Groin pulls everywhere. Perhaps Hasek had the presence of mind to curse the place on the way out.

Alfie has spent his summer in Ottawa taking care of his new baby.

Maybe he got hurt while changing nappies?

The over-reaction on these boards is reaching Leaf-like proportions. Thanks for bringing some much needed perspective.

I think most people around here are largely joking about Kaigodorov's lack of success this early in the season.

Some "reading between the lines" is probably warranted.

Let's not get Bochenski-itis. I think it's mainly the fact that there is a lot of ancitipation for the season and yet relatively little to talk about.

On a sidenote, Gerber is a mistake because of his performance in a freaking intersquad game.

Bring back Darrin Madeley!

If Kaigorodov does flop, I pin it on John Muckler. He's really made it no secret that he wanted him badly and pretty much pencilled him in as the 2nd line centre. In this history of this team, how many guys have come in and just been given a spot without having to earn it??? I'm not saying Kaigorodov is getting a free ride, because this team won't allow it, but when you think about other players in the past who had good potential, they were never handed a top 6 role since we became a playoff team under Jacques Martin. Finally, if he does flop, you can blame Muckler for not acquiring a proven centre for the 2nd line, which has been a position outside of goaltending that we have needed addressed for a couple years that has not been addressed. Waiting for Kaigorodov to develop isn't exactly a luxury a so-called contending team can afford to have. That's just bad team management. I realize its easier said then done with salary cap restrictions, but I think everyone get's my point here.

In honour of groin pulls, here's an Arrogant Worms song:

I pulled my groin
It's the very best injury
Though I'm walking daintily
I pulled my groin

I pulled my groin
When people ask, "It hurts you where?"
I say "Put your hand right there"
I pulled my groin

I pulled my groin

I pulled my groin
Though I do not enjoy walking
I am really happy talking
'bout my groin
I pulled my groin

I pulled my groin
It's the treatment that I love
Because I've bought some oil to rub
I pulled my groin

I pulled my groin

Unless we're in playoff time
When I've got a lower body injury that
Will have to be a game time decision

I pulled my groin
It hurts me when I skate
but not when I master.. hills
I pulled my groin
I pulled my groin
