Jannik Hansen scored last night on Nabokov

Have the other Danes (Madsen?) dressed for their NHL teams yet?

Hansen might be the first Dane to score in the NHL.

Frans Nielsen (NYI) and Kirill Starkov (CBJ) are the other two possibilities.

Hansen might have been the first to score a goal though, the only other person I can think of is Kirill Starkov who might have played in CBJ's preseason last year.

Kim Staal is Danish, is he not? I think he's netted a couple goals for Nashville.

Yea he is, drafted back in the 96 (92th overall) by Montreal but I don't think he ever played in the NHL (preseason or regular) until this year.

Nice to see him try to make the transition to North America, and he appears to have some company.

[LW] Jannik Hansen (VAN) Manitoba Moose (will probably be assigned)
[LW/C] Kim Staal (NAS) Milwaukee Admirals (was assigned)
[C] Frans Nielsen (NYI) Bridgeport Sound Tigers (guessing he will be assigned)
[C] Kirill Starkov (CBJ) Red Deer Rebels (WHL)
[C] Morton Madsen (MIN) Victoriaville Tigres (QMJL)

Both Madsen (11 points in 4 games) and Starkov (2G, 2 games) appear to be off to good starts.

Hey what are the chances of these Danes making the NHL?

I really like to see hockey expand.

Vancouver's coach said that Jannik Hansen might not make it this season but he's definatly going to be a part of the Canucks future. So far this preseason he has 1G and 1A, and is +3 I think. Also the year Hansen was drafted another Danish player was drafted (Peter Regin to Ottawa), who was aparantly quite abit more highly touted, but hasn't come over to North America yet.

I don't know what to say about Kim Staal, but given the comments of Nashville fans in a post I read while he probably has the talent to play in the NHL they have enough depth that it might make it hard for him to make the team (and that is probably the reason he was sent to the AHL).

Frans Nielsen was fairly highly regarded, I havn't been able to find out anything about how he's played during the preseason. We should have some indications if he's going to make it after he plays this season in the AHL..
I've read that he is considered Denmark's best player.

Kirill Starkov was aparantly a late cut at CJB's camp last season, as for this season I'm not really sure. Either way I think they just wanted to get him into the WHL to get him better adjusted to North American hockey.

Morten Madsen appears to be scoring slightly under a 3 PPG clip, if he does that over a full season.. I'd put my money on him making the NHL at some point. But I'd recommend asking Minnesota fans how he played at camp and what his future there might be.

This post, has a fairly good review of Danish prospects, past, present and future. And that future seems like it might be getting even better given some of the reports.

As for Morten Madsen. Wild AGM Tommy Thompson had some really nice things to say about him after the prospect tournament in Traverse City. You can search the Wild.com news archives for the exact quote (I'm too lazy right now ), but it was something to the extent of him being one of the best Wild players at that tournament, and that he was progressing better than they had expected. I was somewhat surprised that he wasn't invited to the main training camp, but it's nice to see him get off to a good start in QMJHL. He is working his way up the prospect depth chart quiet nicely IMO.
