Hat tricks

Anyone know any recrds for hat tricks? Like the most in one season, and who has the most hat tricks of all time (of course I could take a stab at this one...)?

I didn't really wanna make a new thread just for this, but I was curious and I never see any hat trick stats anywhere.

Oh yeah, and on the subject, anyone have favourite hat trick performances? Maybe I'm just going crazy but I seem to remember a relatively unknown David Oliver getting a hat trick against the Dallas Stars some years back to put the Oilers up 4-3 or something like that.

I thought the record for hat tricks in a season was 13. Thought it was Mario.

As for career, it's Gretzky. Don't know the # off the top of my head.

Gretzky holds the record for 50 career hat tricks. He did it last in 97-98 when he got his third goal of the game against Vancouver, a rotten team at the time, and made the defense look like clowns as well as Kirk Mclean in net. The 13 by Mario you are thinking about is not hat tricks in a season but shorthanded goals done in 88-89 season. Mario is near the high thirties for hat tricks in a career and Brett Hull is close by that. I assume Kovalchuk will put up a lot in his career as well.

Wayne Gretzky does hold the record with 50 career regular season hat tricks, and he scored another 10 in the playoffs. He had 10 hat tricks in both the 1981-82 season and the 1983-84 season, which is the record for one season.

Mike Bossy had 39 hat tricks.

(Other than Mario) Who is the leader among active players?

A favorite hat trick of recent memory was McCarty's against Roy in the first game of the 02 WCF. A career grinder getting 3 against the greatest goalie ever. Great start to a great series.

(yes, this a complete homer pick- what did you expect?)
