What features do you like about your Rink

Everyone has one rink that you spend most of your time at whether it be with the kids or playing yourself. What do you like and dislike about the rink.

What I Like:
Two rinks = Different levels of action to watch
Large Mezzanine = Nice area to watch the games where it is warm
Several Lockerooms = Never have to wait for previous team
Close to my House = 10 Min. ride
Friendly = Everyone who runs the rink is friendly and is good to the kids

Don't Like:
Showers = Need to be cleaner
Lights = Offen there are lights out in the rink
Zamboni = Drivers do not do a good job around the boards

Other than quality ice and locker rooms, an on-site pub for after game refreshments is perfect. Unfortunately where I play they are 0 for 3 on these requirements.

At school:

Close (10 minute walk and a locker so no stinking up the dorm)
Good ice
Good prices and quality for sharpenings

At home:
Newer
Big locker rooms
Clean showers

Basically home is nicer to look at but school is better to play on.

I play inline, and the one I play the most on (3 times a week) is outside, so the worst part is being dependent on the weather. There are 2 rinks there, one with a much smoother surface, but majority rules and we end up playing on the other one- which has ruts and divets in the crease. I just look at is as a challenge.... because I am glad it's at least there, and basically free, so I can play as much as I want.

I play indoor too, once a week, and compared to the outdoor rink I love it. But it really is a hole. The surface itself is great, but everything else about the facility could use a little attention. There aren't even doors on the locker rooms. The best part by far are the fans mounted above the nets. Ahhhhh.....

When I played my minor Hockey in Kingsey Falls, the stands closer to the locker room was reserved to the players that arrived early to the rink before their game. So we sat there, looking at the younger players in our pre game outfit (shorts, running shoes and sweatsuit). Since we all came from different town, it was the tine to get news from the boys and plan the next team party. Good times.

Whats good
~many locker rooms
~coaches, instructers, whomever is really nice and wants to help us improve
~conditioning center & trainer are available in the rink
~close to home (15 minutes)
~facitlities are very clean
~two rinks so 2 games go on at once

Whats bad
~the ice sucks. There are chips and holes in the ice that i always trip over and no matter how many times the zamboni goes over it, they dont disappear.
~Pro shop. The shop is really small and overpriced. They claim to have the best prices in the valley but the truth is they really are the only place in the valley!
~Scoreboard. Whenever theres a penelty, it never shows 2 minutes but rather 20 seconds. They cant fix it either.

Rink - Big ice surface, nice benches, good scoreboard
Lockerroom - Decent sizes, nice whiteboards

I wish that the showers were cleaner and warmer and the rink wasn't so gosh darn warm.

Queen's Park Arena, New Westminster BC
-Former home of the New Westminster Bruins, New Westminster Outlaws, and Queens Park Pirates.
-Current home of the New Westminster Whalers of the WHA Junior league (I know. . .)

Like
-The construction of the rink. As I said above, it's been home to many Junior teams, and thus has a huge seating capacity for a community Rink. You just get that good old nostalgic feeling of a rink from a different time.
-It's been recently renovated so the dressing rooms and showers are nice.
-The ice is always great
-The players benches are big enough to fit a full team comfortably
-They just switched over to an electric zamboni, so there's no fear of Carbon Monoxide insta-death
-The water fountains fill up bottles quickly (this is key!)
-The home side and away side for dressing rooms are on different sides of the rink

Dis-like
-There is no skate/pro shop
-The concession is only open during games
-There are no work-out/ dry land facilities (which we've been pushing for!)
-There are only two dressing rooms per side of rink
-Parking can be troublesome. The arena is part of the "Queen's Park" amenities and shares a huge parking lot with a Stadium, an Arenex, a theatre, and a park.

Got my own locker room with a TV and we got a fridge dor the beer. The room is so big, we are 22 player to get dress. We left the equipement in the room so i don't have to bring back my equipement to my home. That's a big plus.

The ice is ok. We play thurday night a 18:30 to 20:00 so we still have plenty of time to drink after the game

4. Outstanding lighting

Dont likes:

1 Benches are dirty as hell. Too much garbage
