Forward Lauri Tukonen, who had off-season shoulder surgery, is scheduled to play tonight.

Eric Belanger and Tim Gleason were traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for defensemen Jack Johnson and Oleg Tverdovsky.

An NHL source familiar with the situation said that Johnson would be willing to sign with the Kings after his college season.

“I think it's unbelievable to maybe get a chance to play with Rob Blake. The guy is going to the Hall of Fame, and I could be in the same locker room with him. This is just an exciting day for me.”- Jack Johnson

“The payoff potential, we just couldn't pass it up. This is not a team that has been picking in the top five, where you can go get an Ovechkin. We're dealing with a kid who was the third pick in the draft” - GM Dean Lombardi

“Those are two good players, players who certainly would have helped us. We do think we have some depth [at those positions], but that is a difficult thing to gauge.” – GM Dean Lombardi, on losing Belanger and Gleason

does Garon get his final chance to "audition" for the backup spot tonight or does Cloutier need the final tuneup before opening night?

I think it'll be Garon to showcase himself for a trade. LaBarbera had his chance last night.

Either is possible, at post time there was no definitive word on who would start, certainly Garon should get another chance to impress, but as I'm not real impressed with Cloutier, maybe he does need the final tuneup. Best GAA of the 3 belongs to LaBarbera.

My opinion is that GMs already know from last season what they're getting from Garon, and playing him just risks injury. I think that, if Garon plays, he stays. If Cloutier plays, it could go either way. I think that Dan will get the game, since management doesn't seem to care much about Garon/LaBarbera. They're far more devoted to Cloutier and getting him ready to be the main backstop for the team. In their eyes, having him ready to go on opening night is more important than anything to do with the backups.

Pregame show will include tonight's lineup & comments from MC...

Nick: Kings mgmt. says core of youngsters must improve for Kings to be in playoff picture...

Nick & Daryl with praise for Kopitar: brings size, handling the puck and physical play well, lots of +'s, noticeable in every preseason game...

Crawford: "Matchups of who works well with one another. Frolov & Kopitar have best chemistry of C-W combos. Also, will try Army-Cammy tonight. Cammy wants the puck to shoot it and score late in games. Thinks they will be a good combo. Complementary players like Brown and Willsie. Needs to find a match for Conroy...maybe Brown? Still looking at that."

Kopitar not in tonight's lineup.

Top 2 lines tonight: Brown-Army-Cammy and Fro-Conroy-Willsie. Tukonen will be in tonight's lineup...

Nick: "Other decisions = enforcer. O'Sullivan is in tonight's lineup. Centers = Kosto, Avery and O'Sullivan have all seen time at center so far."

Daryl: "Which of them will be most flexible at fill various roles? Patrick should adapt well to that position, but needs to take care of his own zone. Also provide an outlet pass lane and take care of D."

Also, Cowan-O'Sullivan-Tukonen. I missed the other line...

Nick also said Mormina and Buckley will be sent back to Manchester after this game...

Nick: Dallman-Lubo, Weaver-Norstrom and Mormina-Buckley are the pairings...

Nick: Oleg will join the team in LA.

Cloutier scheduled to go the distance tonight. Petiot is week-to-week rehabbing his knee, and McCauley the Kings hope will be ready for the regular season...

Nick & Daryl: Kings still looking at various line combos. Addressed defense by trading for Cloutier, etc.. Thinks team will not score a lot early on and defense will keep team in games...

Nick & Daryl: Defensemen combined have over 3600 games of NHL experience. They'll support the forwards going into the offensive zone. Questions to be answered include: backup goalie, keep 7 or 8 d-men on the roster, who'll be the tough guy? The other line tonight will be Parros-Kosto-Ivanans! Fight night at the Pepsi Center?

Game On! Cloutier vs Theodore.

Conroy line attacking... Avs shoot into Kings end. Svatos SCORES from the side of the net...

Puck put into an "empty" net. Miscommunication when Cloutier was behind the net. Nice going, Dan!

1-0 Avs

Unfortunately due to "NHL Regulations" we are not able to stream the Colorado Avalanche games. You can go to the official "NHL.com Network" site for the Colorado Avalanche to listen live.

Buckley and Mormina were the pair on the Svatos goal... the cab is waiting to take them to the airport for their return to Manchester... and the meter is running.
