Cowan SCORES on a rebound of a Conroy shot... Quick counterattack by the Kings! 3-2 Avs...

The momentum and penalties are going the Kings' way this period. Maybe they're finally starting to skate harder. PLAY HARD! Go Kings!

Long outlet to Brown... Avs regroup... Kings to Cammy in the zone... Army is back out there... Army saved by Theodore on a good chance according to Nick...

Kings lead in shots this period, 14-3...

Cowan scores again!! Weaver with an assist. Tie game!

Like I said, I wish people would quit saying that Cowan is useless. He's a great role player. He may not have the most skill, but he's fearless, whether it's dropping the gloves or crashing the net, like the two goals tonight. 3 goals in 2gms now.

O'Sullivan with Frolov and Kosto... tipped on in front by Matty from Kosto at the buzzer, but saved by Theodore... period OVER...

N&D: Difference in 2nd period was Kings came out on the attack right away. Kings got some quick shots and backed Avs off in the neutral zone. Unofficial shot count in 2nd period was 16-7, Kings...

No reason to get TOO optimistic... eventually Sopel and Tverdovsky will be in the lineup

There could be a bit of truth in that. Every time that there was an injury and a checker had to do temp duty in the top-6, Belanger was ahead of Cowan. Jeff never got the opportunity to play with good players. These last few games, though, have me thinking that, if the Kings need him to temporarily fill in on a scoring line anytime this season, he may do an adequate job of it.

Not so.

I think Crawford beat Tverdovsky to death with a hockey stick during the first intermission as a motivational tactic.

The guy has never had more then 10 goals in one season in the NHL and he's held back by Belanger. Ridiculous.

Not sure I agree, but I do think he's an NHL-capable player... hasn't seen the minor leagues in 6-7 years... Maybe Bettman should think about some more expansion

What's ridiculous is that you, apparently, took my post as an attack on Belanger. Don't be so defensive of your namesake. I'm trying to provide a little perspective for why Cowan may have never scored more than 10 goals. Notice how his 8 and 9 goal totals are in years in which he played fewer than 60 games. He was benched the rest of the time. Simple projection tells you that he could be good for 15 goals if he were played in all 82 games and with decent linemates.

Look at how he's not so bad when he gets to skate with players like Conroy and Willsie.
Hey...you shut up about Belanger.

And apparently Cowan was used to decent effectiveness with some of Atlanta's more talented players...I think I heard that when he was first traded to the Kings.

It's still ridiculous. Cowan is not that good of a player in total. He's good for hitting and fighting there is no way that he can ever replace in my opinion the offense that was created by Belanger. Cowan only has played one full season with LA. I guess time will tell but I think you are expecting too much of Cowan who is considered one of the fringe players to even make the Kings squad this season.

Note he did score 11 in a season considering 9 in Atl and 2 in Los Angeles.

Cowan has scored a Total of 10 Goals while playing for the Kings and Belanger had assisted on 3 of them and often looking back was on the same line as Jeff Cowan. Hard to hold someone back when he's your linemate.

I agree with you about Belanger's talent...however, McCauley will come relatively close to replacing his production...hopefully.
