San Jose 5th is a freaking joke.
Also Dallas 4th.

"The Kings haven't gone about rebuilding in a subtle fashion, dealing away Marian Gaborik" - TSN
Damnit!!! Minny better give us something good for him too, O'Sullivan and Lewis are nice, but apparently we just gave them 2/3rds of a great 1st line, we should atleast get some future considerations as well!

I cant blame them for the 22nd though, we are a rebuilding team that lacks a true offensive threat. We should be good defensively and Cloutier realy impressed me in the Avs game Friday standing on his head throughout most of it and only letting in one soft goal(which happened to be on the shootout. (oh and as a complete aside, all 7 goals that game were scored a good six feet directly infront of me ) and our specialy team play should be a good 15 fold better than last years.

Osprey chastised me a week or so ago, when I said there was NO way the Kings make the playoffs, and I didn't debate the issue with him, but I have thought about it long and hard over the past week.

The parity in the league has gotten so that it is actually true that as the season starts it may be impossible to say for SURE that any team is not a playoff possibility. We all know there are weaker teams than the powerhouses, but most (read: almost ALL) playoff prognosticators picked the Rangers and the Oilers to fall well below the line last season, and both made it...

Listening to a variety of "experts" on a daily basis on XM, you hear people say that the Wild will make the playoffs, the Flyers will NOT make the playoffs, that the Thrashers missed by a point last year and this year have a healthy Lehtonen... and on and on... So, my question is: HONESTLY, is there a team in this 30 team league that you can say with 100% certainty WILL NOT make the playoffs...

... I can really only come up with the Kings... and then I'll drop down to 95% certainty and add teams like the Panthers, and the Oilers, and maybe the Canucks, but then I start to think that Luongo could give them a chance to steal an 8th spot and I start over again...

OK, the Kings...

Well the Blues won't make it. Niether will the Blackhawks. Likewise for Phoenix.

Pittsburgh is still out. Capitals and Islanders too.

There you have it. Six teams that absolutely, positively will not make the playoffs. 100% guaranteed.

Those rankings are just about what I think looking at the teams on paper. I do think the Kings will get off to a hot start again before crashing the bandwagon due to no star players up front. I think a good game to see where Kings are early on is the Blues game on Saturday night. They made quite a few changes and it will be intersting if that Team USA top line works out and Manny Legace in net.

Phx and Atl are my darkhorse teams this year. Phx has a good d-corps, but it all hinges on Nolan-Roenick-Joseph. Atl has been due for a couple of years now. They might not have a center for Ilya and Hossa, but Waddell will get one if it becomes a glaring weakness.

I agree with you, but I find it hard to place SJ higher than 5th considering they play Anaheim, Dallas, Phoenix and well, what the hell, Los Angeles each 8 times. That should be 32 pretty tough games.

IMO Pacific Division = best division in the NHL this year.

Roenick had 0 points in the preseason so he looks like he's ready.

If Theodore doesn't rebound in goal Colorado is in big trouble. You can't lose guys like Tanguay and Blake and not replace them. They will go as far as Heljduk and Sakic can carry them.

And last year he scored two goals in the first game against Dallas.

So we all know how early season results are oh so telling...

Last year we were predicted to be shoe-ins for a playoff spot. So the acuracy of these picks should be taken with a grain of salt. Drop the puck and we'll get down to the imperical.

That's what they count on so you'll buy into this claptrap. Kings were 4th to 6th in most of these fantasies.
