Higgins has produced more so far (obviously), but I think Plekanec has more tools. This year I see them producing roughly evenly. Plekanec will be a bigger offensive threat in the future, though (which isn't to say he'll be the all-around better player).
If Pleks stays with the two Russians, it will be close. I think it may come down to which one gets more pp time. 50-60 pt season from both of them is very possible.

I agree. It's a tough call. I think Higgins might be a touch better offensively, Kovalev and Samsonov may score a bit more than Ryder/Koivu but Koivu may get 1st pp time in that Pleks will kill penalties.

So, to summarize, tough call, no idea.
Pleks has always been better offensively as he outscored Higgins every year in the AHL. Pleks will now have a chance to prove now that he will play on the 2nd line.

Apples Oranges, which is better? They are not the same type of player and they are not playing with the same types of linemates...why bother comparing?
They'll both do just fine and that's ok by me
Yeah I would have to say Higgins will score more goals and PLekanec will pop more assists.
Overall if Plekanec stays the enitre year with Kovalev and Samsanov I believe he will score more points!
I love those 2 kids and they are for real !! Points wise, I'd give an edge to Higgins cause I think Plekanec won't play all the pp situations with the russians: on pp you dont necessarely need a centerman per say, and with Samso and Kovalev handling the puck, I could see Latendresse getting some shifts to park his big butt in front of goalies.
That being said, I'm thrilled that Plek finally gets a chance to prove his worth on the offensive side of things, playing with quality wingers ! I checked things out and last year, 5 on 5, he pretty much outscored Ribeiro (on a per/game basis) despite playing with less gifted wingers.

How don't you need a centerman on the PP. Faceoffs are one of the most important aspects of Power plays!

You need someone to win the faceoff on PP.....I dont see the Habs not sending a legitimate center on the ice.
I remember last year when Higgins & Plekan were playing together on the power killing, they kept having 2 on 1 and did an awesome job, would be killer to see them together on the PK this year, they could add more pts!

Pleks is slightly older and the margin between the two in the AHL was not that great. Myself, I look forward to seeing both of them doing well with the Habs.

The year he was named MVP of the AHL all star game was enough for me to change my opinion on him. He displayed some sick skills during that game and he had the best season of his career. Id say Higgins has a bit more grit and hes a better goal scorer but Plekanec has the vision, passing abilities, smarts (although Higgins is a very smart player)

Face-offs last year : Kovalev: 48% Ribeiro: 44% .
Please anybody can take a face-off better than Ribs and that didn't keep him away from pp. Get the 3 guys that are more likely to get it done; if one happens to be a face-off specialist, great ! If not, too bad ! If we ever get a PP at the end of a game with a face-off in the off zone, we'll get Plekanec out there, and that's the end of it
