I talked to him briefly out at training camp. From what I understand he is scheduled to do all the Caps games and a whole bunch of Versus games, as well. Sounds like the first 4 or 5 games on Versus, he will have a different color guy each game.

More on Joe B (someone posted this on the OBs)

"“Joe B.” will call all 81 Caps games, primarily on Comcast SportsNet. He will do at least another 18 nationally-televised NHL games as a member of the Verses broadcast team.

Add in his college game work for CSTV and Beninati will call over 125 games before the puck drops on the Stanley Cup Playoffs."

Article about Joe B

I know IBs site has most, if not all, the info for the Caps and other teams at this point and is very useful because it has the cap hit rather than the salary, but just an FYI, the NHLPA has updated the rosters and 06-07 salary figures for the opening night rosters. Interesting that they have Semin listed at 1.4M vs the 1.3M we read about and is listed as the cap hit in IBs worksheet; a typo, a different salary in year 1 than year 2 averaging to 1.3M or was it reported wrong when the contract was announced?

Mike Green Article

I could have swore there was a news and notes thread...

Anyways...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...101101717.html

Props to Heward...

Quote:
Heward said he called Green over the summer to make sure the touted prospect was preparing himself properly for training camp. During practices, the veteran often pulls Green aside and gives him a pointer, such as how to use his skate and stick to stop a pass at the point, rather than using only his stick.

Nice write-up on Green and I agree props to Heward. This is why I was fine with the organization giving him a one year extension to hang around as a depth d-man. Except for not being sure how long he will be in the starting 6, I was a little surprised he was not wearing one of the A's this season to have one on defense.

I thought Green's crazy hair would disappear after they won the cup; guess not. Each time I read quotes from Green, I am impressed by his perspective on his hockey development.

Strung- there was a news and notes sticky sometime last week, not sure when it disappeared.

Caps News & Notes / Media Coverage

As Strung noted, not sure where the stickied news & notes thread went and I don't these need there own dedicated thread...so...

Fay's article on Brashear

Vogel's piece on Johnson

That is the key for Johnson, IMO, patience and don't leave/wander from the net!

What Happened to Ovechkin's Mirrored Visor?

This sucks...

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitalsinsider/

"I'm not sure who has complained about it," McPhee said. "But it's been discussed at the manager level and discussed with the union. At some point, we're going have to come up with some sort of ruling. But I don't think there's anything in place at this point."

McPhee said the league's GMs took a vote on the issue a few months ago. The vote was 29-1 against allowing mirrored visors. McPhee was the only GM who was in favor of it."

Tarik also tells that Clymer has probably set an unofficial franchise record in Minnesota!

If having a mirrored visor helps goalscorers why not allow them? Better than making the net bigger .

Very cool tarik having a caps blog.

Vogel chimes in on the visor vote, too:

"Here’s a hard and hearty two-handed cross-check to the 29 NHL general managers not named George McPhee, for voting against Alex Ovechkin’s continued use of the mirrored visor he sported at times last season. Let me get this straight fellas: Shootout, yes. Mirrored visor, no. Maybe if it was a glow-visor, huh?"
