I wonder what the team will do when Pettinger comes back.

I thought he played with Beech in juniors? If so then he should just switch to RW and be inserted on the 2ndline. He's an upgrade to Zednik.

But then what to do with Zed?

I saw him taking shifts with Brashear last night but dont know if he'll get relegated to the 4th line just yet.

It will be interesting.

Yes Pettinger and Beech played together in Calgary and much of the preseason/training camp. They have good chemistry.

Ovechkin - Zubrus - Clark
Semin - Beech - Pettinger
Laich - Sutherby - Bradley/Zednik
Brashear - Klepis/Gordon - Zednik/Bradley

Yeah....Zednik might not dig that but I really like Pettinger on the 2nd line as the grinder for Semin and Beech.

Muir's role should be in the press box.

Against Atlanta, my seventh Dman would be Erskine, no question. Muir, phht. ATL is still honked about our playoff knockout last year. They have feisty physical players. We need to send an early, unmistakeable message about staying off AO, Semin etc. We still owe Sutton. Tomorrow night I would sit Fata and dress Erskine. Keep our top six D rested, anticipate for their speed, and be prepared to respond with overwhelming force if they want to play rough.

I assumed Erskine would play over Muir if they dress 7 d-men tomorrow, since he was the one that travelled with the team to Minny, but not if the PP point is the purpose of dressing the 7th d-man. Still, I agree, I would rather see Erskine get a jersey for a night. Curious what the situation is with Muir right now and when Hanlon made those comments; it looks like this was written before the Minny game.

To the earlier comment, I assumed Pettinger would play on that line with Semin and Beech since as Strung noted, Pettinger and Beech were playing together during training camp. Zednik found himself being bumped last game, it will continue, IMO, when Pettinger is ready to return.

Fata probably asked Clymer why he let Kovalchuk waltz into the zone and unleash that freaking rocket of his.

Ovechkin with a groin injury?

but it is completely obvious that it simply not can to play by the total force. On the nature of injury the trainers of "Washington" try not to be extended, but the bandage, which Ovechkin bears on the belt, he indicates the problems with the muscles of groin.

With the time between games so far this season, Id think that would heal up quicker than the normal groin injury.

Hopefully, if its true, he's not pushing it to hard.

Overall it sounds like last-year's injury that just did not completely heal. If so, it sucks, because playing will not make it go away. Maybe long-term it could be a good thing if Ovechkin could not go at full power for a while, a chance for him to become smarter, to use his teammates more, to spend more time preparing in the offseason...

Its all speculation at this point, dunno. He hasn't looked that much off physically to me, its more like he's not touching the puck enough, for which there could be a lot of reasons..

Graham -- Pettinger appears to be getting much closer. He skated at full-speed on Monday and did not appear limited in the upper body. I'm going to talk to him today at practice, but I'd bet he'll play this week.

Something had to give with the 8 d-men and Erskine not dressing for a game, but I figured there was just as good a chance it would be Muir on waivers.

Of course, they could decide to carry 22 instead of 23, but if he clears and goes to Hershey or is claimed, there is no need to send Klepis down to make room for Pettinger's return.

or a small chance they are planning to make a move ???
