That story is based on the same russian article that Makfi denied to be true.

I dont see McPhee letting Ovechkin play through a groin injury, especially after what happened with Suts

depends. It might just be tweaked. there's a difference between an injury and something that is sore.

Great article on a long time Tinner favorite.

But on a side note, Hanlon is an outstanding coach.

Its been a long time since I've seen a Caps team finish its checks and be the more physical team game in and game out. Schoenfeld about a decade ago.

Its refreshing to see and its Hanlons views on how hockey ought to be played that has Sutherby playing so well.

Ron Wilson preferred guys like Joe Sacco or Big shot black. Butch had his kip Millers and Cierniks. Hanlon plays the most physical players usually and doesnt tolerate soft scrubs from what I have seen.

I didn't see this posted anywhere - it was mentioned last night during the game and mentioned on the Washington Post Caps section on the website:

"Hanlon confirmed yesterday that he no longer will coach Belarus in international competition, a position he has held the past two years...Hanlon couldn't commit to further duty because of his responsibilities in Washington. Belarus has hired former Atlanta Thrashers coach Curt Fraser to replace Hanlon."

The optimist in me says he wants to be available to coach this team in the playoffs ; the realist that it was just too much of an obligation taking time away from family and off-season responsibilities with the Caps after the long regular season.

I just heard Kolzig due an interview on XM204...the usual stuff but they talked about Ovechkin not being injuired and that it being propahganda by the Russia media...the trainers dont let any of them through even minor injuries because the season is too long to risk a longer or worse injury...Kolzig said that Ovechkin had a minor groin strain versus the knee injury we all thought

I also just read a short Ovechkin interview, he says he's feeling like his game is starting to pick up with every match, looking forward to the Canada trip...

Klepis Movin' On Up

According to Tarik:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitalsinsider/

Quote:
Coach Glen Hanlon made an interesting lineup change today, promoting prospect Jakub Klepis to the second line, where he skated between Alexander Semin and Richard Zednik.

Klepis was moved there on an experimental basis in the third period of Saturday's game, and apparently played well enough to warrant a longer look. Hanlon has repeatedly said he likes the chemistry between Klepis and Zednik.

Klepis's promotion means Kris Beech will move down and skate between Donald Brashear and Matt Pettinger, who will switch sides and play right wing.
Lines for Avs game?

Ovy-Zubrus-Clark
Semin-Klepis-Zednik
Laich-Sutherby-Bradley
Brashear-Beech-Pettinger

We better be rolling 4 lines evenly then. Some of our best performers this year and last are on the 4th line!

Brashear has been outstanding. More than I expected.

Beech the same.

And we all know that Pettinger is on the All Tinner team.

While I'm not a particular fan of either, that move surprises me. Beech needed a coach to have confidence in him, and he's responded by putting up some points (though that doesn't tell the whole story, obviously). So, he's responded, and now he gets bumped down?

Klepis, OTOH, is off the board, except for some penalties.

I see this move as more of an attempt to jump-start Zednik.

I'm not sure that I like this. Perhaps Hanlon is not on the Beech Bandwagon.

At any rate it seems to imply that Hanlon thinks that Beech's performance is cause of Semin's ability and not the other way around?

Here's to hoping that Semin can maintain his level of play while inserting Klepis raises both Zed's and his own game.

Perhaps this can also raise that 3rd lines scoring as well with the addition of Petty and Beecher.

Interesting! Whatever Beech did to warrant his 7 minutes of ice time against the Lightning, apparently it still has Hanlon in a tizzy. In case it isn't clear to you, Jake, seize the opportunity. Not too many more of these coming your way for second-line ice time. Agree with the above that neither Klepis nor Beech has blown the doors off, so just see how it works. How much Beech's production is a function of Semin is a good question.

I'm happy just to see Pettinger in there, anywhere.

I'm not sure if Hanlon is bumping Beech down. He has played well so far and now he gets to play with a familiar winger in Pettinger. It all depends on how Hanlon gives the ice time for his lines, as Tinner already said. I actually like those lines a lot, there's scoring potential in every line. All you need is Hanlon giving all of them ice time.

Good point! I was thinking the 7 mins had more to do with the 7 straight penalties... now maybe not!

I agree with TomppaV....Beech has played very well IMO. No doubt we will also see some Ovy-Beech-Petty on the double shift.

My opinion is that its an easy way to ease petty back in, giving him time with his linemate from juniors. Either that or theyre switching it up for a few games to see how each look at the secodn line center position. Klepis has been showing some moves, but also taking some dumbass penalties.

My guess is that they'd like Beech to force them to demote Klepis, who is a backup plan in case they aren't happy with Beech as their second-line center. Maybe the road trip will definitively resolve the two-headed center debate.

I hope at least one of them steps up, or it could be a long week.

If this move jumpstarts Fries--er--Zednik enough to get him producing... and allow us to ship his *** out for a pick, I'm all for it!! This would also have the excellent side effect of letting Pettinger take the 2nd line RW spot.

Hanlon needs to drink some Kris Beech Kool Aid. But I like the idea of Ovy-Beech-Pettinger. Or even Semin-Beech-Pettinger if the other Alex gets dbl shifted on the 4th line.
