I'm alright if Klepis plays well, and Beech does ok. More to trade down the road honestly.

I think they want a bit more offense from the center slot on the second line.

I'd have to wager that a lot of the offensive production there is a factor of Semin. But I wonder if Klepis is out there because he is semi-dangerous and can make other teams at least avoid completely cheating over towards Semin.

Meh, I don't like this at all. IMO Beech has stepped up big time this year, and he deserves to play at 2C until he screws up big-time. So far, I haven't seen any evidence of said screw-up.

Putting him with Petty seems like a punishment to me. Not that I have anything against Petty, but he's coming off an injury and needs to play his way back to game shape. It's kind of a trash role for Beech to be playing there. I say, put Klepis and Zed on the 4th with Petty, since they have been under-producing to this point.

I think what it can do is show Beecher's "flexibility" and prove that he is talented, and not just leeching off Semin.

I like this, simply because nothing is obvious yet, and early in the season, this is a good time for experimentation.

I think basically what it comes down to is Hanlon wants to see which combination of players best complements Semin on the second line:

Klepis-Zednik (looked good sometime in training camp?)
Klepis-Pettinger (unknown?)
Beech-Zednik (not great so far, as Zednik is scoreless?)
Beech-Pettinger (some chemistry from minors?)

So ideally, they try each of those combinations with Semin, and all things being equal, Beech should get the nod over Klepis who can still improve a little in the minors, and Zednik should get the nod over Pettinger who would be a much more effective 3rd liner.

As someone has noted, this could actually be an audition kind of thing for Zednik, because at the current rate Pettinger will probably take his place in a matter of weeks if Zednik can't start clicking with someone - Caps can't wait for him forever.

Maybe if/when Ovechkin's game picks up to its usual level, it might make sense to try Zednik on the top line again - I know it did not work out in the preseason, but at that point neither Ovechkin nor Zubrus were anywhere near 100%.

Bradley would have a place on any of Tinner's teams.

I wish his scoring touch was a bit better and he had a bit more size, but there is no denying his grit.

Agree...Never enough Bradley type guys with good speed and willing to play hurt 1/2 the season...The man is pure hustle every shift!...

He does remind me of sort of a dumpster cat though. Scruffy, scratched-up and some sort of goop around one of his eyes.

Line of the day from Hanlon:

"We're kind of like a university recruiting league now, where you have to have the right facility and you have to do the right things to get these players. For us, it's easier to recruit a forward because it's an opportunity to play with Ovechkin or Semin -- it's like taking the recruits past the girls' dorm on their one-day visit to campus."

Some Ovy love from Calgary:

http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/...9ca551&k=64789

Quote:
There he was. In the flesh. Finally.

The most famous Alexander to hit sports since Jason (George Costanza) Alexander was kissing up to the Steinbrenner clone on the occasional Seinfeld episode.

The gawking started at the morning skate, an estimated 200 or so of the curious, including many staff members of the Calgary Flames, huddled in the stands at the Pengrowth Saddledome to catch a glimpse of an authentic phenom.

He'd charmed in the morning, smiling and laughing, saying he was trying to negotiate the capture of a Jarome Iginla stick before leaving town (which he did, by the way). At night, he was all business.
Quote:
In the dressing room afterwards, he snuck impishly over behind no-longer-slumping Zednik, and stuck rabbit ears behind his buddy's head for the TV cameras to capture for posterity. Or at least the late-night highlight reel.

Yeah...its pretty bad when the "Practice Facility" has naming rights attached to it. Sure...its a multi purpose building and all and not just the Caps Training/Front Offices...but come on.

Ugh.

I'm on the other side of it - doesn't make much difference either way, IMHO. As it is a practice facility, I'm not sure how it can be a big deal?

For those interested, we have our write up done now (onfrozenblog.com) including our encounter with Ted and Tarik. It also includes Tarik's somewhat surly reply in the comments section.
