Hey i just have a question....how many teams are there in front of Montreal in the waiver draft? I really want them to pick up Manny! and get rid of Dackell or Sundstrom...

I beleive priority is determined according to current rankings.

That's what I thought, but everywhere I read it states:

"Once a player is placed on waivers, teams have 48 hours to put in a claim on that player. If more than one team places a claim, the team with the lower number of points in the previous season is awarded the player. If no team places a claim, the player can be sent to a minor league affiliate."

Unless I'm mistaken, it works exactly like the entry draft, but as soon as a team claims a player he drops to the last place.

legaspesien is right, it goes by lowest winning percentage.

"In the event that more than one Club makes a claim for such player, he shall be transferred to the claiming Club having earned the lowest percentage of possible points in the League standing at the time of the request for waivers..."

As of today, this is where the Habs stand:

WASHINGTON - 0.306
PITTSBURGH - 0.324
COLUMBUS - 0.361
FLORIDA - 0.400
SAN JOSE - 0.421
NASHVILLE - 0.441
CAROLINA - 0.444
DALLAS - 0.447
CHICAGO - 0.450
CALGARY - 0.471
MONTREAL - 0.474
ANAHEIM - 0.500
BUFFALO - 0.500
MINNESOTA - 0.500
PHOENIX - 0.500
NY RANGERS - 0.500
OTTAWA - 0.531
ATLANTA - 0.550
TORONTO - 0.553
EDMONTON - 0.556
DETROIT - 0.579
LOS ANGELES - 0.588
NY ISLANDERS - 0.588
COLORADO - 0.667
ST LOUIS - 0.676
VANCOUVER - 0.684
NEW JERSEY - 0.706
BOSTON - 0.722
PHILADELPHIA - 0.735
TAMPA BAY - 0.750

So in the case of Malhotra, after excluding Dallas, we're 10th. But... I'm assuming the fax was sent in before last night's games so this may not be the actual order to grab Manny off waivers.

Its the draft order of last year, minus trades and lotery, but when you pick a player you go to the bottom of the list.

I don't think the Habs need him. He makes about $1 million & hasn't proven a thing in the NHL. Not to mention he didn't even have great junior or minor league stats. I'd wait to see if Dallas buys him out -- maybe he's worth a shot at a lower price.
