Did not like Cloutier's comments after the game

His comments
"They're a Stanley Cup contender, and for us to play well like that against them is good for our team," Cloutier said. "Our goal this year is to throw a lot of pucks at the net every game and shoot from everywhere."
and
"We have to give this Ducks team a lot of credit. They're one of the best teams in the league for a reason, but we came in here and hung with them for most of the game," Cloutier said.

I did not like these comments at all. What, we're ready to give up after just one game? What kind of crap is that "Our goal is to throw a lot of pucks"? THere are 81 games left!

No, Cloutier, our goal is to win a lot of games, not just to shoot a lot of pucks, and our goal, just like any NHL team's goal is to get into the playoffs. Is the team's goal this year really that low? Just to throw some pucks? I don't believe Lombradi and Crawford have that as Kings' ultimate goal this year.

...

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come you back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'tis I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

That's an understatement. Good grief, some people are just on the edges of their seats, waiting for anything to hate Cloutier (and Blake) for.

Heaven forbid that he give respect to a team that deserves it. Players aren't the hate-filled people that fans can be, fortunately.

He's just stating his opinion on Cloutier's quote. What is so wrong about that? Can any of you deny that with that quote, it almost seemed like Cloutier was going into the game with the mentality of losing? It's pretty obvious that he was expecting a loss and seemed fairly content with a close game.

Now I don't necessarily agree with the original poster that this is really something to be troubled over, but I can't say that I don't see what he's saying.

Yes, I can. I didn't read anything of what you two read into it. Pretending that you're better than you are will surely lead to frustration. He knows that the Ducks are a better team and is drawing positives from his team's play because of it. Is it so bad to look at the positives?

interesting comment. As much as i hate DanCloutier, nothing he said indicated he came into the game with the mentality hes garuanteed a lost.

HIs Days in Vancouver he never really made any comments like this. Like saying how good the other team is. Lets hope he does not view this season as a rebuilding year, and have no hopes of the playoffs. If it is, L.A fans, you guys are doomed.

Too many misinformed people like to bash Dan Cloutier. Fact of the matter is that he puts up 30+ wins a season and is a solid goaltender. Every goaltender needs a change of scenery and Cloutier hasn't really played competitive hockey for quite some time thanks to his injury.

I was a fan of his during his ranger days so i might be a little biased. There are plenty of goalies that do well in the season but then disappear in the playoffs. Up until last season Dwayne Roloson was just an aging old fart, he has 1 good post season and he is a bankable goaltender. This is fair to goaltenders like Dan Cloutier how?

That Anze Kopitar is something special, i say by mid season some of the LA Kings fans will be like "Remember when we used to gush about Frolov...those were the good days, damn that Kopitar is good"

even though i disliked cloutier when he was in vancouver, i dont' think he's the kind of guy who thinks he'll expect a loss when the odds don't look so hot from the start. certainly from reading those comments i don't think it was the case of him giving up.

I read into the quote that he likes to sacrifice kittens and he's a closet Sharks fan.

Seriously, though, some people need to get a grip. A lot of people seem to think the Ducks have a good shot at contending for the cup this year. They made the semi-finals AND added Pronger to the mix. He didn't go there expecting to lose, but he's not blinded by hatred and ignorance into thinking it would be a cakewalk.

If only a few fans would follow suit.

I don't like it. It does have kind of a "we're not worthy" intonation. That doesn't sit well when you say it about cross-town rivals...

Lol. Cloutier is good. And he played very good last night. Its just we have the worst D. Im sick of everyone saying we have the best D. It pains me to see a moron like Norstrom make High School hockey mistakes.

Blake might have had a bad night. But Norstrom was at fault for a lousey goal also and was on the ice for about 4 or 5 defensive lapses. Im counting all of them this year....

Yeah, but Blake actually scored one of the Ducks goals.

If you don't have respect for a player or team, you're not gonna make it far in the NHL.

I think the issue is more along the lines of Cloutier having more respect for his own team. There's no refuting that the Ducks are a good team, but the fact that DC said it was good enough that the Kings didn't get beaten by more is unsettling. The goal should be winning. You should respect your opponent, but you should also have confidence in your ability to beat them.

And what gives you the idea he doesn't have confidence in his team's ability to beat one of the media pundits' favorites to win the cup this year?

Honest to God, it's one simple quote saying the team played hard against a talented team.

I'm not too mad about this quote. I wouldn't have started a thread about it. However, saying that the Kings did well just to hang in there isn't the way I would have worded that.
