Trade Proposal: Iginla to Carolina

Iginla to Carolina. I would love to hear it, but I know it will never happen.

If they could use the defense, hears my proposal:

Carolina
D Brett Hedican
D Aaron Ward
D Sean Hill
2nd round pick in 2004
2nd round pick in 2005

for

Calgary
RW Jarome Iginla
LW Martin Gelinas
D Robyn Regehr

Make necessary changes as you see fit. I just propose this for fun

Isn't Calgary already stacked with defensemen? IF they deal Iginla to Carolina, I'd expect Sutter to ask for O'Neill + more.

They can have O'Neill. Hell, they can have this entire roster. I'm tired of the 7-1, 6-1 losses.

Value wise is null. If Calgary want's to get rid of the big contract then pull the trigger I'll throw in O'Neill and a bag of Svoboda......

Frack it, take a free Craig Adams too.

It burns, it burns!

First off Calgary is deep on defense, they don't need more. That group of players would not fetch Regehr alone, or Gelinas, or Iginla.

Let the flaming begin...

Defense is one of the Flames strongest areas. You are just offering a bunch of older veteran defenseman who have more seasons in the NHL behind them than they probably have ahead. Hill is a pending UFA and if the Flames want him (far from a certainty), they just have to wait a few more months and get him for nothing. Ward and Hedican are really nothing too special.

Iginla and Regehr are two "core" Flames players. None of the players you are offering back fit that description. They'd be perfect additions to a team that wants to add depth to compete for the Cup, but not very useful to a team like the Flames who are already fairly well-stocked on the blueline and rebuilding anyways. They'd all be gone by the time all the young Flames talent is ready to make some noise.

And trading Iginla not only rids them of their captain and best player, but they would also likely lose fans. The Flames are far from an exceptional team, and I'm sure losing Iginla would not send a message to the fans that winning is a priority. And without Iginla, Flames games would be even less offensive. Iginla's pretty untradeable, despite what these supposed rumors claim.

Regehr is arguably their best defenseman and Gelinas one of their better offensive forwards. Need I go on?

I know you proposed this just for fun, but the Flames would probably want Staal or O'Neill as the centerpiece of a package for Iginla and I can't blame them.

1rst rounder in 03, O'Neil, Vrbata

for

Iginla, Nystrom or Taratukhin

BTW, that first propsal is a really bad one, no offense.

3 30+ dmen with 2 that have their prime behind them (Hill, Hedican) and two second rounders?

Carolina would certainly not deal for Iginla because of the huge price tag.

No better. None of the forwards you so kindly added would interest the Flames enough to make them give you Iginla.

As I said, O'Neill or Staal would probably have to be involved.

I take it the 7M contract has no merit on this?

That original proposal is about as lopsided as it gets. The Flames give up the top 2 assets in the deal, easy.

That deal is about as lopsided towards Calgary as the first one was towards Carolina.

Staal >>> Reinprecht
O'Neill << Iginla

I honestly don't see how that is fair. Now to Salary

Staal >> Reinprecht
O'Neill >>> Iginla

Not fair again.

IMO, pretty bad. Iginla big contract lowers his value signifigantly, and methinks anyone who wants staal will have to over-pay. O'neill is a great player as well, like Iginla-lite.

Lets do this..........you give us O'Neill, Markov and and a pick, you can have Iggy and Gauthier.

Better yet, let's just not trade with Carolina in the first place........It doesn't make sense.

I'd have Staal more like > or >>, not >>> over Reinprecht. He is just a prospect, afterall - not as much upside as you think (if reports are so), but someone who is guerenteed to be a very solid player.

And I believe Staal has or will get the cap, so his salary would equal Reinprecht - and with bonuses, his salary will easily triple or quadruple Reinprecht's salary. How much is O'Niell making? I thought it was 5 million?

I agree that deal is very sexy for Calgary, but thats probably what its going to end up costing. Doesn't make much sense for either team.

Strictly valuewise, Carolina overpays IMO.

Staal >>>> Reinprecht

Iginla > ONeill

Well the thing about Staal is that he's already appeared in 20 or so NHL contests and he's on pace right now for about a 60 point season. His defense has been outstanding and he has given no reason why he didn't merit the #2 overall selection. So you saying Staal > Reinprecht is like saying #2 overall selection > Reinprecht. See what i'm saying? Just look at the return when the Islanders dealt the #2 overall pick to the Senators for Jason Spezza and look at that return. That return was just a tiny bit higher than a Steve Reinprecht. Staal also has the potential to be a franchise type player. Something that we can safely say, Steve Reinprecht will never be able to obtain.

Even if Staal hits all his bonuses and tops out i'm pretty sure it's about a 3 or 4 million number. Even so, i'd be happy to pay that for a 19 year old 60 point a year player who plays fine defense.

Holy lord god.

REGEHR too? He's their best defenceman! They trade two young cornerstones for three old farts and a pair of second rounders?

That's like Calgary offering Lydman, Gauthier and Lowry for Staal and Danny Markov.
